Earthquakes in Japan, Taiwan, Guam and Indonesia… Volcanoes in Japan, Mexico and the Philippines

The Earth is Shaking!

We are living in the time when the prophecies of Matthew 24 are very real. We see global religious deception, we get daily updates on wars, and rumours of wars and also earthquakes which strike suddenly and unexpectedly even in places such as Britain where they are not expected!

As we understand, the word translated ‘ earthquakes’ in Matthew 24:7 is seismosa commotion - which can refer to earthquakes but also volcanic activity, tornados, tsunamis, hurricaines, wildfires - all events which today’s media refer to as “ natural disasters ”!

As these events become more common, the cost, in both property destroyed and lives lost, is on the rise!

2017 Broke All Records In The USA!

“A trio of monster hurricanes and a ferocious wildfire season led to the costliest year for natural disasters on record in the US in 2017, with nearly a third of a trillion dollars in damage, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced Monday.

The US endured 16 separate weather and climate disasters with losses that each exceeded $1 billion last year, with total costs of about $306 billion, a new record for the country. It broke the previous record set in 2005, when Hurricane Katrina and other disasters caused $215 billion in damage to the US.

The total of last year’s disaster costs is nearly the same as Denmark’s gross domestic product, which the World Bank tallied at $306.9 billion in 2016.” (

“Commotions” In History

Here are a few of the more serious events in the past to give us some idea of how serious these “natural disasters” can be!

750 BC - Israel, The Earthquake in the days of Uzziah

About 30 years before the Captivity of Israel (721-718 BC) a huge earthquake occurred in the land of Israel. Both Amos (Amos 1:1) and Zechariah (Zechariah 14:5) refer to this event. Now scientists have revealed the size of this monster quake:

“…the earthquake in question was at least magnitude 7.8, but more likely was 8.2. This magnitude 8 event of 750 BC appears to be the largest yet documented on the Dead Sea transform fault zone during the last four millennia. The Dead Sea transform fault likely ruptured along more than 400 kilometres as the ground shook violently for over 90 seconds! The urban panic created by this earthquake would have been legendary.” (

Josephus, the Jewish historian adds this information…

“Uzziah …was corrupted in his mind by pride and became insolent …when a remarkable day was come, and a general festival was to be celebrated, he put on the holy garment, and went into the temple to offer incense to God upon the golden altar, which he was prohibited to do by Azariah the high priest, who had fourscore priests with him, and who told him that it was not lawful for him to offer sacrifice, and that ‘none besides the posterity of Aaron were permitted so to do.’

And when they cried out that he must go out of the temple, and not transgress against God, he was wroth at them, and threatened to kill them, unless they would hold their peace. In the mean time a great earthquake shook the ground and a rent was made in the temple, and the bright rays of the sun shone through it, and fell upon the king’s face, insomuch that the leprosy seized upon him immediately.

And before the city, at a place called Eroge, half the mountain broke off from the rest on the west, and rolled itself four furlongs [half a mile], and stood still at the east mountain, till the roads, as well as the king’s gardens, were spoiled by the obstruction. Now, as soon as the priests saw that the king’s face was infected with the leprosy, they told him of the calamity he was under, and commanded that he should go out of the city as a polluted person.” (

August 79 AD - Italy, Pompeii

This volcano destroyed an entire city. This volcano is still active today. People are aware of the history – yet if this same disaster were to happen today, the death toll could be huge!

“Mount Vesuvius, a volcano near the Bay of Naples in Italy, is hundreds of thousands of years old and has erupted more than 50 times. Its most famous eruption took place in the year 79 AD, when the volcano buried the ancient Roman city of Pompeii under a thick carpet of volcanic ash. Two thousand people died, and the city was abandoned for almost as many years.

Mount Vesuvius has not erupted since 1944, but it is still one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. Experts believe that another Plinean eruption is due any day - an almost unfathomable catastrophe, since almost 3 million people live within 20 miles of the volcano’s crater .” (

1812 - USA, The New Madrid earthquakes

When people talk about earthquakes in America, California with its San Andreas Fault is the main topic of conversation. But there is another area which is potentially far more dangerous – the New Madrid fault line.

“In the known history of the world, no other earthquakes have lasted so long or produced so much evidence of damage as the New Madrid earthquakes. Three of the earthquakes are on the list of America’s top earthquakes: the first one on December 16, 1811, a magnitude of 8.1 on the Richter scale; the second on January 23, 1812, at 7.8; and the third on February 7, 1812, at as much as 8.8 magnitude.

After the February 7 earthquake, boatmen reported that the Mississippi actually ran backwards for several hours. The force of the land upheaval 15 miles south of New Madrid created Reelfoot Lake, drowned the inhabitants of an Indian village; turned the river against itself to flow backwards; devastated thousands of acres of virgin forest; and created two temporary waterfalls in the Mississippi.” (

If this disaster were to be repeated today, the States of Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee could all face serious damage.

April 5, 1815 - Indonesia, Tambora

Tambora – the forgotten volcano. It took months for the news to spread around the world. But the effects were serious. 1816 was known as ‘the year without summer’ in the northern hemisphere. Crop failures in both the USA and Europe led to famine conditions.

The eruption was so huge that it reduced the mountain’s height by more than 4,000 feet.

“The most destructive explosion on earth in the past 10,000 years was the eruption of an obscure volcano in Indonesia called Mount Tambora. More than 13,000 feet high, Tambora blew up in 1815 and blasted 12 cubic miles of gases, dust and rock into the atmosphere and onto the island of Sumbawa and the surrounding area. The ground shook, sending tsunamis racing across the Java Sea. An estimated 10,000 of the island’s inhabitants died instantly.

Climate experts believe that Tambora was partly responsible for the unseasonable chill that afflicted much of the Northern Hemisphere in 1816, known as the ‘year without a summer.’

The eruption of Tambora was ten times more powerful than that of Krakatau, which is 900 miles away. But Krakatau is more widely known, partly because it erupted in 1883, after the invention of the telegraph, which spread the news quickly. Word of Tambora travelled no faster than a sailing ship, limiting its notoriety.

…when the chance arose to visit the volcano while on a trip last fall to Bali and other Spice Islands, I took it. Formerly a cone or double-cone, it’s now shaped like a turtle’s shell: the eruption reduced the mountain’s height by more than 4,000 feet.

Three thousand feet deep and more than three miles across, the crater was as barren as it was vast, with not a single blade of grass in its bowl. Occasional whiffs of sulfurous gases warned us that Tambora is still active.(

August 27, 1883 - Indonesia, Krakatoa erupts

Here is another colossal volcanic eruption, which, were it to be repeated today could well claim over a million victims. In the last 200 years, the population has greatly increased, new cities have been built in the area – mostly on the coast – all vulnerable to a 130ft-high tsunami!

“It had been two centuries since there had been a proper eruption. Over the following months the smoke, noises and expulsion of ash continued. Far from prompting locals to evacuate the area, these natural firework displays resulted in festivals.

That all changed just after midday on August 26, when the first of a series of large explosions sent debris shooting 22 miles into the air. Then, at 5.30 am the next day, four enormous eruptions blew two-thirds of the island into the sea.

‘It was a potent mix of magma and seawater that made the eruption so explosive,’ says Professor Davidson. ‘The water had managed to access the magma chamber and the result blew the island to pieces.’

Five cubic miles of pumice, ash and rock were spewed out, while the mega-eruptions were so loud that they were heard over 1,900 miles away in Perth in Western Australia, and over 4,500 miles away in Sri Lanka.

Originally 2,667ft high, Krakatoa had collapsed to 820ft beneath sea level.

About 4,500 people were killed and numerous villages destroyed, but far more devastating was the subsequent 130ft-high tsunami.

Over 90 per cent of the people killed by Krakatoa died in the tsunami. In the years after the eruption, the area around Krakatoa was quiet. However, in 1927, steam and rock was seen bubbling away in the water, and soon Anak Karakatoa - ‘Child of Krakatoa’ - began to rise above the sea.

In November 2007, the volcano started violently erupting again, but islanders thought they had escaped another potential disaster when everything went quiet last year.

This spring, however, Anak Krakatoa started rumbling again [it is already over 1,300 feet high!].” (

The Four Most Powerful Earthquakes On Record

May 22, 1960 – Chile - Magnitude 9.5

“The world’s most powerful earthquake left 4,485 people dead and injured and 2 million homeless after it struck southern Chile in 1960. The port of Puerto Saavedra was destroyed in the ensuing tsunami, which caused $550 million worth of damage in Chile and killed a further 170 people as five-metre waves hit the coasts of Japan and the Philippines. A day later Volcán Puyehue in Chile’s lake district spewed ash 6,000 metres into the air in an eruption that lasted for several weeks.

March 28, 1964 – Prince William Sound, Alaska - Magnitude 9.2

The Gulf of Alaska was devastated by the Prince William Sound earthquake that caused landslides in Anchorage and raised parts of outlying islands by as much as 11 metres. The resulting tsunami reached heights of 67 metres [220 feet] as it swept into the shallow Valdez inlet and was responsible for most of the 128 deaths and $311 million worth of damage.

December 26, 2004 – Off the west coast of northern Sumatra - Magnitude 9.1

The deadliest tsunami in history was felt in 14 countries across Asia and east Africa, triggered by a ‘megathrust’ as the Indian tectonic plate was forced beneath the Burmese plate. Indonesia was the worst affected with an estimated 170,000 dead.” (

March 11, 2011 - Honshu, Japan - Magnitude 9

“On March 11, a massive 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of the Tohoku region of Japan, rattling the seismically active country and setting off a devastating tsunami that wreaked havoc on the Japanese coast and reached all the way across the Pacific Ocean.

It was the biggest earthquake in Japan’s recorded history and the fourth biggest quake in the recorded history of the planet.

The magnitude 8.9 earthquake that struck northern Japan on Friday not only violently shook the ground and generated a devastating tsunami, it also moved the coastline and changed the balance of the planet.

Global positioning stations closest to the epicenter jumped eastward by up to 13 feet.

Japan is ‘wider than it was before,’ said Ross Stein, a geophysicist at the United States Geological Survey.

Meanwhile, NASA scientists calculated that the redistribution of mass by the earthquake might have shortened the day by a couple of millionths of a second and tilted the Earth’s axis slightly.” (

Disasters Waiting To Happen?

‘Worst case scenario’:

“Japan: Underwater magma chamber ‘could kill 100 million people’. A magma reservoir potentially hidden behind an underwater volcanic crater could have civilization-ending results if it ever erupts, according to Japanese scientists.” (

‘Big One’ fears mount as earthquake ‘cluster’ strikes Pacific Ring of Fire

“Earthquakes and volcano eruptions around the Pacific’s ‘Ring of Fire’ have sparked fears that a ‘Big One’ quake is on the way.

Scientists in California have analysed 101 major earthquakes around the Pacific Ring of Fire, a horseshoe-shaped geological disaster zone, between 1990 and 2016.

They believe a cluster of tremors around the area could indicate a ‘big one’ is due to hit.

Earthquakes have already struck in Japan, Tawain, Guam and Indonesia in the past few weeks.

Japan’s mount Kusatsu-Shiraine killed one person and injured 15 when it erupted.

Mount Mayon in the Philippines sent lava soaring 600 metres into the air, forcing 60,000 to evacuate villages nearby.” (

Will Cumbre Vieja erupt?

“Concerns have been growing after a series of hundreds of mini earthquakes in La Palma in the Canary Islands. More than 40 mini earthquakes in 48 hours were recently recorded on the island sparking large tremors coming from the active Cumbre Vieja volcano. Experts have warned if the huge volcano erupts, it will collapse into the sea – sparking an 80ft tsunami tidal wave that would engulf Spain, Britain and the east coast of the US.” (

Yellowstone earthquake: Fears for deadly Supervolcano Eruption

“Fears for a Yellowstone supervolcano eruption have been sparked after a swarm of 10 earthquakes struck the seismically volatile US national park yesterday following another quake the day before.

If the Wyoming volcano were to erupt an estimated 87,000 people would be killed immediately and two-thirds of the USA would immediately be made uninhabitable due to a huge ash cloud sparking rapid climate change.” (

God Uses Earthquakes…

When God spoke to Elijah…

“And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake” (1 Kings 19:9-18).

The veil in the Temple rent during an earthquake!

“And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent(Matthew 27:51).

The earthquake, witnessed by the centurion:

“Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God” (Matthew 27:54).

A great earthquake as the angel opened Christ’s sealed tomb:

“And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it” (Matthew 28:2).

God used an earthquake in freeing the Apostle Peter from prison:

“And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed” (Acts 16:26).

The Future

Mr Armstrong wrote:

“The mountains were formed. Great forces caused gigantic upheavals, or huge cracks and slippages in the crust of the earth. Massive blocks of granite lunged up into the sky – the earth rocking and reeling in the throes of the greatest earthquakes in its history. Mountains were made – they didn’t just happen.

The God of all power, who formed the hills and mountains (Amos 4:13; Psalm 90:2), will reform them – will re-shape the surface of this earth.

Read of the huge earthquakes yet to come which will directly accomplish much of the rehabilitation of the land surfaces.” ( Tomorrow… What It Will Be Like)

Those Final Earthquakes…

“And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood” (Revelation 6:12).

“And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake(Revelation 8:5).

“And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven” (Revelation 11:13).

“And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail” (Revelation 11:19).

Then - the Final “Quake”!

“And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.

And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found(Revelation 16:18-20).

The World Tomorrow

It would seem that the crust of the earth is fractured, shattered, changing the geography of the planet as we know it today. What will be the size of the cataclysm required to get rid of all the earth’s great mountain ranges?

But it will happen!

With the mountains “not found”, and Satan’s world totally destroyed, rebuilding can commence. Just as God used the great end time earthquakes to destroy Satan’s world – so He promises to start the rebuilding process.

I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys:
I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.
I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree;
I will set in the desert the fir tree, the pine, and the box tree together:
…that they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it(Isaiah 41:18-20 Revised Standard Version).
