God's Lesson Of Brexit

God's Lesson in Brexit

"And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand... and great was the fall of it". (Matthew 7:26,27)

This Pastor's Report is based on a sermonette given shortly after the Brexit referendum June 2016. In the light of subsequent and even more chaotic events surrounding the Brexit process, the main point of the sermonette has even more to say to us today.

One hundred years ago – July 1916 – saw the beginning of the battle of the Somme. And in that first day 20,000 people were killed on the British side alone and about 38,000 were wounded. Then, over the course of the next few months, another million people died. These are astounding figures! During this time, a saying arose to describe the British leadership; the phrase “A nation of lions ruled by donkeys”. Because, when you think about it, the instruction given to the infantry was to leave the trenches and slowly advance towards the enemy. Yet the enemy hadn't been ‘softened’ sufficiently with the mortars and the ammunition rounds used against them, and so they had their machine guns ready, resulting in soldiers being mown down by the tens of thousands. There was no way of looking for counsel on some previous war, as weaponry had changed dramatically, but even so there was a horrendous lack of common sense.

The Brexit Chaos:

When this sermonette was given three years ago we'd just had the Brexit referendum, but looking back over the last three years what is the key lesson for us? The answer is given in Isaiah chapter two, where we read of something that is going to happen regarding all mankind – forecast and prophesied to occur. And we've got to understand that when we see these thing coming to pass that they are fitting in with God's Plan.

  • Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the [Eternal], and for the glory of his majesty.
  • The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the [Eternal] alone shall be exalted in that day. (Isaiah 2:10,11)

That goes for all of us. Quite frankly, the human being is nothing compared to God, and yet people strut through the earth and look upon themselves as really something. If the nations are no more than a drop in a bucket, where does that leave us as individuals? (Isaiah 40:15)

  • The LORD Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled),
  • for all the cedars of Lebanon, tall and lofty, and all the oaks of Bashan,
  • for all the towering mountains and all the high hills,
  • for every lofty tower and every fortified wall... (Isaiah 2:12-15 NIV)

In other words, God through the prophet Isaiah is really emphasising that earthquakes can bring even these kind of things crashing down. Nothing is going to be exalted against the Eternal when Jesus Christ returns.

  • for every trading ship and every stately vessel.
  • The arrogance of man will be brought low and human pride humbled; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day, (Isaiah 2:16,17 NIV)

So when we see things like the insanity of the Somme years ago, plus the Brexit conflicts and the chaos that's come as a result of it, we need to understand that God's Plan is to bring the wisdom of this world to nothing (I Corinthians 2:6), the might of this world to futility and certainly what we're witnessing fits within God's basic objective.

The Key Lesson:

There was an article in the Daily Mail shortly after the referendum that said;

“As a historian I assure you this is the most tumultuous event of modern times. A peoples' revolt against the elite that had been brewing for years. [It's almost like the lions actually revolting against the donkeys that were over them]. Even now, to write the words 'Britain has voted to leave the EU' feels extraordinary, like a leap into some alternative reality. For once all the cliches are justified. This was not merely an electoral earthquake! This was a popular revolt by vast swathes of England and Wales against the political, financial and cultural elite, whose complacent assumptions have been simply blown away.” (

Just as the complacent assumptions of the ruling elite were shattered by the referendum, so what we are currently seeing today within Brexit - both here in the UK and in Europe – also certainly fits within what we have just read over in Isaiah chapter 2. All the might and the arrogance of mankind eventually is going to be totally and completely wasted for it's going to be shown for what it is. And we've got to keep this in mind as we move towards the end time, towards the coming Tribulation. The Tribulation will be the culmination of this frame of mind that is in mankind and if we want to look at the real key lesson of Brexit and its aftermath, it's that the natural mind of man is unfit for rulership.

That's the key to this Pastors Report, that's the key lesson of Brexit. And it can be seen in three areas: in Law, in Industry and Politically, and particularly within the EU because the resulting 10 nation resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire will be the dominant force in the world at the end time. They themselves will be punished and they will in fact fight against Jesus Christ.

SNP's Socialism:

One thing to bear in mind when you look at the Brexit result is what happened in Scotland and the SNP (Scottish National Party). It's unusual in that sense that Scotland voted to remain and it seems largely due to the pressure that was put on by the SNP. It is interesting that when you are looking at the SNP, it's a nationalist party, it's also socialist as well. Now the word 'Nazi' is National Socialist. And certainly the actual polices that you see coming out of the SNP align themselves with a national socialist agenda. Now when I say 'national socialist' I don't necessarily mean a Nazi agenda, as in Hitler's, but it's still going along the same line. It's still going in the same direction - it's still nationalist, it's still socialist, and in the EU you are looking at Euro-nationalism, Euro-centric nationalism and socialism being put together.

To give you an example as far as the SNP's policies are concerned; in August 2016 they were fully intent on implementing a 'State Guardianship' programme. Now, 'State Guardianship', at its heart, is about intelligence gatherers and I quote from an article, again by the Daily Mail :

“Intelligence-gatherers, imposed on each and every family by the State, they are able to mould perceptions - often in secret – of the families allotted to them.” [They are trying to make sure that no child falls through the cracks, so they're appointing somebody as a state guardian that trumps the parents! And freedom therefore is undermined.] “There is no right of appeal against their findings indeed, no automatic right to know what those findings are - and no way to prevent their judgements spreading out into the state bureaucracy via a soon-to-be-created mass database.” (

Napoleonic Legal System:

But this form of government, this socialism and intrusive socialism, is also seen within the EU. So no wonder there is an affinity between this Scottish National Party and the EU. And this mindset is largely coming from the Holy Roman Empire that predated the Napoleonic code - the same mediaeval system the Inquisition operated under. It's an inquisitorial system – meaning, there is normally no jury and the judge can act as both the defence and also the prosecution. It's an inquisitorial means of trying to find the truth, but the judges are given an inordinate amount of power.

This is contrasted with the "common law" that we find within the UK and the USA which is very different. I think it is best summed up by William Pitt the Elder back in the 1700's – when the Crown was trying to have the imposition of a certain tax on scrumpy cider – who said in his address to the House of Commons;

“The poorest man may in his cottage bid defiance to all the forces of the Crown. It may be frail, its roof may shake; the wind may blow through it; the storms may enter, the rain may enter,—but the King of England cannot enter; all his forces dare not cross the threshold of the ruined tenement.” (

The above was true because an Englishman's home WAS once his castle! But now that right has been wiped away – I think it was under Mr. Blair at the behest of the EU – so that today, if the police wanted to come into our home, they could simply march in, under suspicion.

Yet if we turn to Deuteronomy 24 we can see clearly how this common law is based on biblical principles. This is where this concept of an Englishman's home being his castle came from, and in America the same applies:

  • When thou dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge.
  • Thou shalt stand abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring out the pledge abroad unto thee.
  • And if the man be poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge: (Deuteronomy 24:10-12)

It's a respect of people's property, it's a respect of their dwelling place, it's a respect of their individual rights. But that is not found in the Napoleonic code. And it's very much a national or an international socialism or an inter-European socialism, and it's certainly something that is very, very different from what you find within both America and Britain, or at least you used to find in America and Britain but unfortunately these laws have been considerably watered down in recent years - years in which we have been absorbing legislation from the EU.

Such laws are prophesied to become truly tyrannical in their application. And when you look at the Great Tribulation, these laws will likely still be in effect but they will be applied in a way which pours scorn on the entire idea of righteous leadership by mankind. Daniel was inspired to write:

  • After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns. (Daniel 7:7)

And this is something we've got to be aware of, something we've got to be watching for, even in the lead-up to the Tribulation. These kind of things will sadly be the case, but remember – it's all part of the fact that man, and the lofty ideas of man are all going to be pulled down ultimately.

The Role of Industry:

In Revelation 18 we find great emphasis on the economy, trade and finances - something that an ever-closer union of European nations is striving towards today. But it is clear that these aspects of "unity" are also prophesied to come to grief in the final analysis – fulfilling God's purpose, once again, in bringing mankind down to size!

  • And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more: (Revelation 18:11)

When the whole Babylonian system is destroyed, this will include the key religious edifice of Babylon the Great – the Catholic church – which will ride the beast. But the beast itself also carries the name of the system behind it, and it is the whole system that is prophesied to be demolished and come crashing down around their ears.

  • The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, [and you can add all the modern technical areas that this system will have as a means of individuals becoming very wealthy]...
  • And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee...
  • The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, [notice: were made rich by HER, by the Babylonish system, by Babylon the Great riding the beast] shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
  • And saying, Alas, alas, that great city... (Revelation 18:12,14, 15-16)

So we see that the current agreements involving industry and commerce within the EU are going to eventually come to nothing and in the process, teach mankind some vital lessons in humility. This makes the watching of world events in such areas as business, the economy, trade, finances, manufacturing, agriculture and labour etc, very meaningful.

Political Chaos:

As we witness the imposition of more and more ungodly laws, and see the Brexit chaos within the political system in this country at the present time, we must keep in mind that it's all part of the process – a weakening and ultimate obliteration of the ideas of man regarding government. Because man himself, and the ideas that he has are not fit to be governing. They are not going to have any part nor place within the Kingdom of God.

In the area of political leadership, notice in Revelation 17 that the beast system will be ridden and controlled and the leadership will actually be coming from the Catholic church.

  • And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: [and verse 15 explains that they are peoples and tongues and individual countries]
  • With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
  • So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. (Revelation 17:1-3)

So this control - the leadership politically - is in fact coming from the Roman Catholic church. But it is going to be coming from this religious body much as a prostitute controls her paramour. There is no love lost within such a relationship - it's a business deal. Very much what both of them can get out of the arrangement. Now verse 12:

  • And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. [a very short period of time]
  • These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. (Revelation 17:12,13)

So this system, the Babylonian system will be given power by these ten nations, groups of nations, kings, or kingdoms – whatever format will actually come out of the current Brexit chaos in the EU and the Eurozone nations. These ten 'groupings' will give their power and strength to the beast, to the head individual over the entire political system – ridden by the Catholic church, ridden by the religious side, the religious power.

But I want you to notice that at the end everything that is high, everything that is lofty comes crashing down and this is what we need to keep in mind: this world and all of its proud, ungodly, self-seeking ways is leading in that inexorable, destructive direction.

  • And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. (Revelation 17:16)

Because the direction she was leading them was detrimental to them, and as we've read in chapter 18, the merchants will weep bitterly as they see the entire system crashing around their ears. And the whore herself - the true leader - that religious system will also come toppling down, so no high hill, no governmental system is going to survive in the longer term.

An Everlasting Kingdom:

The chaos in the world from Brexit and the aftermath, particularly in Europe - even though they seem to get their act together and have a unity by the actions of the Catholic church - the mayhem in this world is eventually going to result in their downfall, but there is going to be another kingdom. As so vividly described in the book of Daniel:

  • This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,
  • His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.
  • Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.
  • Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth. (Daniel 2:32-35)

We're given the promise in Revelation 20:4 that if we overcome – rejecting the beast and his mark - we can replace the rulers of this earth, and for a thousand years bring the Utopia that man has been longing for but has had no idea how to implement it! The road ahead is rocky, but here's our destiny, as brought out in Daniel 12;

  • And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
  • And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
  • And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. (Daniel 12;1:3)

So the leaders of this world and their high and lofty ideas will be pulled down - humbled - and what will arise from the outcome from Brexit will be part of that process. And eventually the Kingdom of God will have control and God's Spirit born Sons will be subject to Christ. And being subject to Christ – who has the right to have the correct position of leadership in the world over man – they'll help bring in the peace and stability that man is seeking for. And all the might and the arrogance of mankind eventually is going to be shown for what it is – that the natural mind of man is unfit for rulership. That's the key lesson of Brexit!
