Satan as The Father of Our Post Modern World

By Jon Bowles

You know, we just heard Mr. Armstrong talking very, very forcefully, about the narrow way, which is what he was talking about, particularly the false ministers. He was labeling them as such that were preaching against God's Law. It is interesting, if you'll just turn over to Isaiah 64. Be aware what it says over here in Isaiah 64 is both positive and also it can be negative as well. In talks about in verse 5 it says:

Isaiah 64:5-8 You meet him that rejoices and works righteousness, those that remember You in Your ways [So he's talking about the ways of God in that regard. It goes on.]: behold, You are wroth; for we have sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved. (6) But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. (7) And there is none that calls upon your name, that stirs up himself to take hold of you: for You have hid your face from us, and have consumed us, because of our iniquities. [But if you'll notice in verse 8.] (8) But now, O [ETERNAL], You are our father; we are the clay, and You our potter; and we all are the work of Your hand[s].

You and I are very much clay in the hands of God. We've been made that way. We've been made to be malleable. We'll find that some days are good and some days are bad. Some days we're more malleable than others. Some days we get it, and some days we don't. And we have, we've been deliberately made to be influenced by God for the positive side. But that also has a negative side as well, because we also can be influenced for good and for evil. And, unfortunately, we are so often in this world, where Satan is broadcasting, we are influenced for evil. We have this carnal nature that we are battling against, and we continually battle against it.

Last week I gave a sermon on dating as the first of four sermons on marriage. The next sermon I want to give in that series will be on the sexual relationship between husband and wife, or basically sexual relations generally. But before I do, I want to emphasize something. That's what I want to give in this particular Bible Study that has incredible bearing on this particular subject. And that really is that the father of our post-modern age -- now that post-modern age is that age that we find ourselves in today; and the father of that age, this time that we're living in, is Satan.

If we don't really, really understand that, when I go on to describe the need for a change (or the problems we have within our marriages), we will filter it through our own perception. The only solution really is a total washing of our minds from what we've absorbed. And if we don't wash our minds clean of what we've absorbed and put them under God's government (which is what it is -- particularly in the area of marriage, and of sex, and the family, and so on) because Satan seems to have attacked that more than any other area; and for very good reason, as I'll go on to explain in the subsequent sermons. But I think it is worth reminding ourselves before we go on to that sermon, the fact that Satan is the father of this post-modern age in which we live, in which we are being influenced by all the time.

I've put it into six areas. Now you can go into many, many areas; but I've divided it up into six. When I first made my notes, I had about twelve or fifteen areas; but I had to try and boil it down somehow into something almost manageable.

Those are the areas that I want to deal with today and talk about how Satan is, indeed, the father of the post-modern age in all these different areas that we go through, and just examine ourselves a little bit. Just remind ourselves a little bit just how off track we really are in our modern world so that, when we come on to look at the specific subject of marriage and the sexual relation within marriage, we'll realize the influence that we have had. It is going to corrupt our minds, and therefore we do need to. The only real solution is a total washing of our minds from the way, in fact, we have been affected.

Let's have a look at this first one, of government. Turn over to Revelation 11. And it is government that it's all about. When Christ returns ... And remember (I've mentioned over and over again) chapter 12 and 13 are two crucial chapters. They give the two sides of the confrontation that takes place at the very point of Christ's return. So when we're looking here at Revelation 11, we're looking at this particular specific point of Christ's return; and we see that the time that He returns, in verse 15:

Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

It is a government issue. The Kingdom of God is a government issue. The governments of this world are all going to be swept away and be replaced by the Kingdom of God. That's why we're being trained right now. We're being trained for that government position, to learn a totally different way. And, as Mr. Armstrong brings out, we are not getting it. We don't understand how total this way is -- the absolute totality that there is of change that is going to have to be at that time.

Turn over to Daniel 2. Again, Daniel points this out. He goes through the various ages. It gives a much broader sweep of man's ways, man's governments, than does Revelation.

Daniel 2:40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and subdues all things: and as iron that breaks all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.

Notice, it's going to be all consuming. This system that is going to be there, this Babylonian system, is going to have influence across this Earth.

Daniel 2:41-42 And whereas you saw the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as you see the iron mixed with miry clay. (42) And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

It goes right down to the toes, these ten toes, at the very end time when Christ returns. This is what we just read over in Revelation.

Daniel 2:43-45 And whereas you saw iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not [stick] one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. (44) And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. (45) Forasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God has made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

And this was the broad sweep of the Babylonian system all the way down to our present time and beyond into the very Kingdom of God. So we are just at that point, just before the ten toes form; and the only place that we'll find the government of God today is within the Church of God. Now, Mr. Armstrong made that abundantly clear. When I say that "within the Church of God," I'm meaning the Church of God and also the families within that Church, because that also is a part where the government of God should be ruling. Our families should reflect that. The marriage relationship should reflect the government of God.

And, as I say, it is Satan who is the father of our post-modern world, this democratic world that we see today. And the question is: Has Satan's concept of government affected God's Church and us? Has it actually got into the Church? Has it gotten into our families? Do we really understand the way of God and the way of government? Or do we, in fact, have this post-modern world -- that what we've got today that Satan is the father of, and Satan has in fact constructed specifically really to destroy us? And we've got to understand that. This is what Satan is doing, is in the process of doing.

If we turn back to Isaiah 28, there is an interesting scripture here in Isaiah 28. It's a scripture that a lot of people will read out in the world as well. These false prophets that Mr. Armstrong was talking about earlier will read this scripture, and people within the Church will read this scripture, and as the Corinthian Church:

Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus saith the LORD [ETERNAL] GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believes shall not make haste [or flee in confusion. "Not be destroyed," as it is actually quoted over in the New Testament a number of times; and it's a case of not fleeing in haste or being destroyed.].

Now if we look at this verse in isolation, we can think, "Oh well, the foundation is Christ." If you remember what we read in 1 Corinthians, it says: "I'm of Paul. I'm of Apollo. I'm of Peter. I'm of Christ." And people are aligning their teaching with what Christ says, and so on. But if you read around this particular verse, we can see the government of God in action; and it is, as I say, "Has Satan's view, has his concept of government, affected the very Church of God and our families?" Or are we, in fact, listening to what it's got to say here? Notice in verse 8:

Isaiah 28:8 For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.

We've seen that within the Church. It's something Mr. Armstrong never foresaw. But it's something we've lived through.

Isaiah 28:9-11 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? Them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. (10) For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: (11) For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

It's almost as if he's building with one word of God on top of another, almost like bricks in a wall.

Isaiah 28:12-14 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith you may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. (13) But the word of the [ETERNAL] was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken. (14) Wherefore hear the word of the [ETERNAL] , you scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.

Now I've brought out many times, if you want to start separating within Isaiah who's who, there is a very good and very easy way of doing so. And that is, the way you see Zion, you're looking at the true Church. Where you see the house of Israel, you're looking at physical Israel because it was written right at the point that physical Israel went into captivity. It's very similar to us today. So when you see the people that rule within Jerusalem, you're looking at people that are ruling in what would be the true Church. But is it really the true Church -- the people that are ruling, but not ruling correctly?

Isaiah 28:15-17 Because you have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves: [And then He gives a solution.] (16) Therefore thus saith the [ETERNAL] GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believes shall not make haste [or flee in confusion]. (17) Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.

It is interesting that anybody reading that would read right over the top of that unless you've done some building. If you've done some building, you start to understand what a cornerstone is. You also understand what a line is used for, and what a plummet is used for; and it's as true today as it was back then. The corner stone is the first thing that goes down in the foundation. The next thing you do is to put a line onto the cornerstone, and on that line you begin to start laying the foundation itself. The plummet is used against the foundation. It gives the vertical. The line gives the actual line of the foundation. It lays out the building in a square shape. That's done by line; and you do that with the 2, 3, 4 uh 2, 3, 4 -- 3, 4, 5 whatever that is, measurement [laughs]. 3, 4, 5 isn't it? You go ahead and lay that out so you've got a square on each corner, but you're doing it from this corner stone.

Now it's the job of somebody who lays the foundation to use the line and go against that cornerstone. But when you then come with the plummet, which gives you the vertical -- which we use a spirit level today, which is a very appropriately named tool -- you put your spirit level against the foundation, or go wherever you are on that foundation where you lay your first line of bricks; and you go up vertically from that line of bricks. But it's the plummet you use against the foundation. And it's saying here that, oh these people, once you do this, then it sweeps away the refuge of lies; and the waters will overflow the hiding place. He then goes in a very interesting section. And he says in verse 23:

Isaiah 28:23-28 Give you ear, and hear my voice; hearken, and hear my speech. (24) Does the plowman plow all day to sow? Does he open and break the clods of his ground? (25) When he has made plain the face thereof, does he not cast abroad the fitches, and scatter the cummin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rye in their place [at their various times]? (26) For his God does instruct him to discretion, and does teach him. [Notice, it is the way you deal with different types of grain, different types of fruit.](27) For the fitches are not threshed [Okay, and threshing is a symbol of chastisement. They're not chastised.] with a threshing instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned about upon the cummin; but the fitches are beaten out with a staff, and the cummin with a rod. (28) Bread corn is bruised; because he will not ever be threshing it, nor breaks it with the wheel of his cart, nor bruise it with his horsemen.

So a bread corn -- which is a very, very hard corn; a hard unyielding corn that is not soft and malleable -- you've got to go ahead and use a much more strenuous treatment. And these people that will not go ahead and put their plummet correctly onto the foundation, and will not submit themselves to the government of God that is in the Church -- which is the foundation of the spiritual heritage that we were given, and understanding that word must be upon word, line upon line, precept upon precept in the way that God has determined (not the way that we determine for ourselves) -- it's going to be aligned with the plummet to the foundation that has a line placed against the cornerstone.

And without that, you know, what will we do? Well, what we need to do is to understand that government now, so we're not corrupted by this broadcast, by this Satan's way, this government, this democracy. And we've got groups all over the place who have all these kinds of ideas about having democracy within the Church. And I'm not just talking about the actual structures they're using. I'm talking about whether they've placed themselves under that spiritual heritage that God's placed within His Church, as far as Revelation is concerned. And then you align yourself with that foundation. And each block has got to align itself with the foundation. If not, the plummet hasn't been used. So the subject of government, and what we have today, we need to ask ourself the question whether in fact we have been affected by that? By what is around within the world today?

Okay, let's move on to the second area. I mean, we could make a sermon out of the entire thing; but let's move on to each area and have a look at each of these. Turn to Romans 1; and let's talk a little bit about education, because (as Mr. Armstrong used to constantly bring out) religion is education. True religion is education. That's why the services are structured the way they are. It is the disciples of Christ, or the students. And we have got to understand that, when we listen to a sermon or a sermonette or a tape (as we just did), it's a case of education that is taking place -- the basis, the foundations, of education that are taking place. But when we look at the world and we look at the world's education, then Romans 1 really lays it out for us as to what we're looking at, particularly in today's post-modern world.

Romans 1:18-21 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who [suppress the truth, hold back. The word "hold" literally means hold back the truth, suppress.] the truth in unrighteousness; (19) Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God has shown it unto them. (20) For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; [In other words, the basis of God's sovereignty can be seen.] so that they are without excuse: (21) Because that, when they knew God [In other words, they had this awareness through these things that are made.], they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations.

And it's the imagination of man, and it's the mindset of man, that Satan appeals to. He said, "Has God said you cannot eat of all the trees of the Garden?" That is basically saying "Use your own brain." as Mr. Armstrong brought out in the tape we just listened to. "Use your own brain, make your own decision." That is the basic element that we find in Genesis.

Romans 1:21-22 But became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.. [Your taking that step starts to darken the very heart.] (22) Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

So men were suppressing the truth; and, when you're looking at education, they then pass on this suppression. The suppression of the truth is actually formulized, and formalized into the educational system that we have around us today.

Romans 1:26-27 For [this reason] this cause [changing the truth of God into a lie and worshipping and serving the creation, in other words, which we do in evolution. In evolution, we worship and service the creation instead of the Creator; and for this reason] God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: (27) And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.

Now the education and the suppression of the truth produces a certain mindset; and this then, this deviancy, comes as a result of that. Now, we'll talk about that more in the subject that I want to discuss ultimately. But I want you to notice where this is coming from, even within the education.

I want to just read something I came across the other day about the New International Version of the Bible, and something I didn't realize. I think it might be worthwhile pointing out to you that the assistant editor of the New International Version, Virginia Mollenkott, apparently is an avowed lesbian -- who believes that God is female, and that there is scientific evidence that Jesus is also female, and that God is the One. She also believes that homosexuality is not wrong and that the main sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was not homosexuality but a lack of compassion on their neighbors, that where they did wrong was in wanting to rape the men, the angels who came to take out Lot from that wicked city. She's also a member of a church that has 500 homosexual couples. The Chairman of the New International Version's Old Testament translation committee, Dr. Martin Woudstra, was a homosexual. This is probably their stance in this area, is probably the reason for the New International Version's complete removal of the words homosexual and sodomites (apart from 1 Corinthians 6:9 that uses the vague term "homosexual offenders.")

Now this is the Bible that was foisted on the Church, if you remember, from which much of what we actually understood that all the changes and everything else came from this Bible and from a mindset. Remember we just read "for this cause" -- because they don't profess, they don't really hold God in their knowledge -- they, therefore, are given to a different mindset.

It says the New International Version chief editor, Edwin Palmer, believes that God's sovereignty so overwhelms our humanity that we're not responsible for our own sin. And in his own words he states, "All things are foreordained by God: the moving of a finger, the opening of a window, the mistake of a pianist while playing, even sin. The Bible describes man as passive in the whole matter."

From that mindset came the translation that came into the Church of God. We wonder why we had problems in the Church. You know, was this pointed out? Was this ever taken into account? Really, when we're looking at the mindset involved, we trace it back into the 1800's. We trace that particular translation back to those two men who constructed the Revised Greek Text. That's Westcott and Hort; and Westcott and Hort were heavily involved with the Hermes Club they founded in Cambridge, the Ghostly Guild. They researched psychic phenomenon and all this kind of stuff. They were also friends with Charles Darwin. They were also friends with Sigmund Freud. And these men shaped what we have today, within our post- modern world. And where did it actually come from? I mean, the whole thing. We're looking at our post-modern world.

I just want to read an article I was reading in Reader's Digest. It's an article entitled "Porn School," and here is the education. And we need to be aware of this as parents, and grandparents, that we don't just blindly allow our children to go ahead and attend some of these universities; and realize what they're talking about. I'm not going to read some of this stuff quite frankly. And this is from the Reader's Digest. I'll just read the end of it.

"It turns out it's possible to design a curriculum so crazy that even students complain. When details emerged about Berkeley's Male Sexuality course, the student newspaper questioned whether the course's fieldwork might be off-putting, and therefore exclusionary. 'Watching instructors strip or have sex at clubs like Sex Exchange in San Francisco,' [And that's homosexual clubs. This is the instructor taking their pupils down to these clubs to explain to them all the various goings on.] the paper noted dryly, 'are among activities that may deter some students.'"

The main problem with porn studies, though, isn't that it's vulgar and often X-rated. The problem with porn studies is that it's one more symptom of academic relativism -- the view that no course of study is intrinsically superior to any other. Slogging through a reading of A Midsummer Night's Dream is no more or less valid than screening A Midsummer Night's Cream. [Now that's apparently some porn movie.]

Trendy as this may be, it makes a mockery of higher education. No matter what the professors may say, watching dirty movies is not the same as reading Shakespeare. It's just a lot easier."

Now, okay, we read this kind of stuff; but this is going on within our universities and schools. And where's it actually coming from? Well, it's coming from this time in the 1800s (and places such as the Hermes Club, and the Ghostly Guild, and so on) where Westcott and Hort got their Revised Greek Text that put together the New International Version that undermined the various thinking within the so-called Christian established world. And this was all planned. It had to be planned. There's no other way you can go about it. It had to be planned by Satan because, when you look at the way in which these ancient manuscripts were discovered, they were manuscripts from a thousand years or more. The Sinaiticus, the Alexandrian, they would normally have been destroyed; but, for some reason, they were preserved. They had certain changes that had been made to them, which were quite remarkable changes; and this then filters down into this particular time in the 1800s that became the kind of foundation of what we have today.

At the same time, you've got this Madame Blavatsky with the New Age movement coming in at the same time as well. Again, a friend of Westcott and Hort. And if you look at Freud, and what Freud did, and how he came up with his thinking ... There's another article I came across. This one is Sigmund Freud, "Recommendations to Physicians Practicing Psycho-Analysis." The Freud Reader, Peter Gay, ed. New York: W.W. Norton and Company, Inc., 1989, p. 360.

" ... in one of his papers on technique, Freud stated that an analyst must 'turn his unconscious like a receptive organ towards the transmitting unconscious of the patient.'"

In other words, he was actually receiving his information. He's trying to receive information from these mental cases; and much of what he's coming out with, came from this kind of stuff -- this telepathy and stuff.

"Additional evidence for Freud's belief in this physical basis for the occult can be found in a letter of his to Ferenczi, in which he describes his opinion of a soothsayer whom they had both visited. Freud thought that she had a 'physiological gift' that allowed her access to the thoughts of others." (Jones, Ernest. The Life and Work of Sigmund Freud (vol. 3), New York: Basic Books, Inc., 1957, p.384-5)

So he was dabbling in this stuff all the time. And it's from this kind of thing, and these kind of men, that shaped and went ahead and basically twisted and warped what had been occurring through the Middle Ages. I mean, it needed changing; but it didn't need what came out of the 1800's. And from there -- from this education, which has been planned ... Quite frankly, it's got to be planned. You don't have a manuscript that's been dug up totally going against the standard text within the Greek Orthodox Church, which appears to have been given the custodianship of the Greek Manuscripts; and you get these people dabbling in this stuff.

So, what we're seeing within the modern world, it isn't coming out of thin air. Well, it's coming out of thin air; it's coming out of the Broadcaster into thin air. But it's not just coming out of nowhere. It's coming from a source. Satan is the father of our post-modern world; and the problem is, within education, we've got to understand that. As Mr. Armstrong brought out, there's nothing in this world going to survive as it is into the future. Turn over to II Corinthians 11, which Mr. Armstrong quoted in tape we just listened to:

2 Corinthians 11:1-2 Would to God you could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. (2) For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Remember, religion is education. And religion being education, what's in our mind? What is our view religiously, educationally? How much have we been affected government wise? How much have we been affected by the world in which we find ourselves today? And this is why I felt I had to give this sermon, this Bible Study, prior to giving one on marital relations -- because that area has been trashed by this post-modern world, and the one behind the trashing is Satan. And the reasoning behind the trashing is to trash God's people because, if we don't get it right, we can't teach it. That's the point.

2 Corinthians 11:2-4 ... that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. (3) But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. [So we look at this and it says:] (4) For if [one] that comes preaches another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if you receive another spirit, which you have not received, or another gospel, which you have not accepted, you might well bear with him.

He goes down into verse 13: 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such [these people that are doing this] are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. (14) And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. (15) Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Now, what we have been educated by -- religiously, and within universities and schools, and so on -- it is not on track. It is just not on track! When you get something out in the world, it just will not be there. There was a specific reason for the King James Version to come through Tyndale and others, to come at the time it did. But when you get the modern translations (coming from this Revised Greek Text, coming from the corruption of the Majority Text), you also see the editors and the subeditors and the lifestyles they had compared with the ones that actually put together the King James Version; and that even includes the New King James as well. The New King James has been adapted according to that Greek Text. Many of the things you find in there have been adapted.

And in education you find that religion is divorced from education. You find the failing of exams is also being frowned upon, all this relativism. I mean the idea that you can go ahead and have a study on pornography within a university, and then accept it, and have it accepted being taught by ex-strippers. And these things are now in our universities; and it is just a sign of the way in which society is going, ready for the eventual intervention of Christ. Now, we're living in it. We've been living in it like a frog in a glass of water. And the heat has gradually increased. If we'd gone back thirty years and then come back suddenly into what we see today, there'd be an enormous shock. To go say thirty, forty years, whatever -- if you go back to the fifties, when there was censorship and so on.

And this is true when we go into this next aspect of entertainment. Turn over to Genesis 3. Let's read what Satan did and what he actually said to Eve, and remind ourselves -- because, in the area of entertainment, entertainment is educating us. It's allowing our mind to go along a certain way. And if we sit ourselves in front of the television (which is a primary form of entertainment today) and we sit there night, after night, after night, after night; we are getting educated by the entertainment that we are receiving. And Satan knows that. He knows it full well.

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the [ETERNAL] God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yes, has God said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

So, you know, not every tree? Why can't you have every tree? Why should you go ahead and deny yourself something? Why not have every tree in the garden? And you know, it was, "You can have every tree in the Garden except this one, this particular one, the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil." So, today, we have no censorship. Turn over to Genesis 6, and you'll see the same problems being mentioned here.

Genesis 6:5 And [ETERNAL]GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

In the entertainment industry without censorship, which we have today, the only censorship we have today is the prosecution that would come should pedophilia, say, in this country or in the States be exhibited; but that's it. Or perhaps bestiality. I don't know if that's ... In other words, there are certain laws; but it's not censorship. It doesn't go past a censor. It's only if you can get away with it without being prosecuted. But the censorship is gone. You look at certain films that were produced in the fifties, when there was censorship; and you compare it to films today. Totally, totally different -- totally different.

But here, prior to the flood, every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was evil continually. And it's the imagination of the thoughts of the heart. Turn over to Genesis 11. You're looking now at Babel, the very foundation of Babylon, which will be the system that will be destroyed; and the church that is presiding over this system, and riding this beast, it's going to be destroyed. And here, in the very foundation of Babel ...

Genesis 11:6 And the [ETERNAL] said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

It's coming again from the imagination. And the imagination, if we turn back to Romans 8, we find where this imagination of man -- the direction in which it's going--because this is what we also are being influenced by. We are clay. We can be influenced by God on the one side; or, if we allow it, we can be influenced by the post-modern world in which we're living on the other side. And it's up to us how we are influenced, or what influence we will have.

Romans 8:5-8 For they that are after the flesh do mind [That is, set their minds on.]the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. [They're two different ways of life.] (6) For to be carnally [or fleshly] minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (7) Because the carnal mind [the mind that's going a certain way] is enmity against God: [So the imagination of his heart that we've just been reading about in Genesis 6 and 11, and the idea "Wait, couldn't you eat of every tree?" The imagination of his heart, as it says here, is enmity against God.] for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. [And it says here] (8) So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

So when we are looking at entertainment without censorship, guaranteed it is going in a certain way that is displeasing to God. It will, naturally, go that way. Can we therefore not watch any film? It is very few and far between. I'm not saying there is no film that we can watch, but we've got to be aware of that. And we've got to be aware that those films (those plays on television, the chat shows, whatever we happen to be watching) are having an effect on us. The entertainment that we are subject to is going to have an effect on us.

The music we listen to, it will have an effect on our moods. Our moods are going to be governed by the music we listen to, to some degree, depending on how much we listen to it; and we need to be aware of that. The violence that we watch on TV, or films, or whatever -- just notice if you're watching a film and there's going to be violence done against a bad guy, just before the violence is done against him there is justification being given. In other words, the bad guy obviously cheats.

I was watching the other day. Robin had something on the TV. It was the end of Karate Kid or something like this, before the news came on. And they were having some kind of karate tournament. And the bad guy was cheating, and all the rest of it; and it was leading up to the fact that now the good guy can use whatever violence he wants to go ahead and defeat the bad guy. Now that really happens over and over again, but be aware that that is happening. And that is the way in which we are being manipulated, at this present time, through the entertainment -- which is educating us in a certain way.

Also, what about films and the sexual side, the things that we see on the films? And I'm not talking about the porno. I'm not talking about actually watching pornography. I'm talking about watching sexual themes of any description -- be it an overbearing wife, an uncaring husband -- whatever the sexual connotation. How is that affecting us? And is it coming from the right source? The answer is no, it's not. And so, when we're looking at this subject (and we will be going into this subject eventually), we've got to be aware that it's the antithesis. It's also designed. It is designed to destroy us, and we've got to be aware of this. We've got to be aware, both male and female, of this broadcast that is there. It's out to destroy us. Turn over to Ephesians 1.

Ephesians 1:22-23 And has put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, (23) Which is his body, the fullness of him that fills all in all.

So here is this living Word of God, the One that created all things; and by that same Word, sustains everything that exists. Everything that we touch, everything that we live within, is sustained by that Word. And this One, who is the head of the Church, the government of God, He's put all things under His feet. So here's the government of God there again, and it then goes on:

Ephesians 2:1-3 And you [and us. He's given to the Church, so we have got to be like Him. We've got to be going along the same way. We've got to be a help fitting, meet for this Being. And you ... ] has he quickened, [made alive] who were dead in trespasses and sins; (2) Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of this world [And when we're looking at the entertainment of this world, this is part of the way we walk. We walk according to the course of this world.], according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience: (3) Among whom also we all had our [conduct] in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

We're just the same. And even now, to the level in which we are affected by these things, we can still be affected. The question is: how much of our lives are still affected? We need to be aware that the post-modern world in which we find ourselves, the father of it goes right back to Satan himself.

Ephesians 2:6 And has raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places [or heavenly offices] in Christ Jesus.

Or heavenly. In other words, we have not got a mindset that is higher. We're focused on a different higher plane. You know, he says, "My thoughts are not your thoughts. My ways aren't your ways. As the heaven is higher above the earth, so are my thoughts above your thoughts." It's this higher education that we've got. This entertainment, which is a form of education, we've got to raise our view. And as it says, notice:

Ephesians 2:19-22 Now therefore you are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; (20) And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, [Now we've just been seeing, over in Isaiah, about the line and the plummet and how that foundation needs to be used.] Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; [Understand how, actually, that is laid out. That the line puts the foundation down, aligned with the chief corner, and on that foundation, from that foundation, the plummet aligns us and our building. Being the chief cornerstone] (21) In whom all the building fitly framed together grows unto an holy temple in the Lord: (22) In whom you also are built together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

But notice, this is in context of this "prince of the power of the air" being broadcast; and we need to be aware that that broadcast includes the entertainment that we are listening to -- because that entertainment comes from a carnal mind that, as it says in Romans 8, is opposite to the way of God and His thinking.

What about the area of food and agriculture? Now, if we go back to Genesis 3 again because this really forms the basis. We read the first verse:

Genesis 3:1-4 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the [ETERNAL] God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yes, has God said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden? [You know, why not every bit? Why have censorship?] (2) And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: (3) But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. (4) And the serpent said unto the woman, You shall not surely die.

"It's not absolutely definite, you'd die. You can get away with it." And when we look at food and agriculture, this philosophy of mind says:

Genesis 3:5 For God does know that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

You can make your own decisions on this matter. You can work it out. In other words, you can basically eat what you like; and then you can get it fixed because, within food and agriculture, you also have the health service as well. And termed "the health service" -- total misnomer. But it's not for health. It's to fix what's been put wrong initially. It's not God's way. It's the antithesis of God's way, as we'll go on and look at commerce and so on. Let's just ask ourself a little bit about the way of God. Turn over to Micah 4.

Micah 4:1 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the [ETERNAL]shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.

Now we've seen that in Daniel. We saw it in Revelation, how this government of God, this Kingdom of God, will fill the whole Earth and will be over all other governments that went before it and completely consume them.

Micah 4:2-3 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the [ETERNAL], and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, [That's us. It's going to come from not only physical Zion, but spiritual Zion as well.] and the word of the [ETERNAL] from Jerusalem. (3) And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: [So there's going to be an agricultural basis there.]Nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

We were talking to somebody last night. Actually, he was a soldier just come back from Norway. He was just about to go across to Texas to do his training for the jungle warfare. Well, probably Florida for the jungle warfare, and Texas for the desert warfare. But he'd just come back from Norway for the artic warfare. But you know, "neither shall they learn war any more."

Micah 4:4 But they shall sit [Now this is what God is looking for. This is the way in which food is going to be produced.] every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the [ETERNAL] of hosts has spoken it.

Once God says something, it's as good as done; and He is currently training us toward this end. What's our view of it? What's our view of supermarkets? They do give us a tremendous variety, don't they? I mean, I can't grow grapes year round, and all the various things I can get out of a supermarket. There's no way. I just can't do that, not without great difficulty anyway.

Micah 4:5 For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the [ETERNAL] our God for ever and ever.

This is something that's going to go on for eternity. They can have all their gods and all their ways; but THIS WAY, this Way of God, is going to go on for eternity.

Now, when we look at food and agriculture in today's society, if you turn over to Genesis 11, we find a society that is going a certain way. We find a post-modern world that is very wealthy. That has enormous blessings, it appears. And yet, is it really going in the right direction? Are we really learning the things we need to learn?

One of the things we need to learn is to be grateful for the food that is on our table, learning to recognize that God feeds us and sustains us through the food that we eat spiritually; and we understand that when we are appreciative of the food that we eat physically. And we understand very clearly when we can see the stuff grow and it comes onto our plate -- and we see the animal grow, and it's killed and the blood has got to be shed so we can eat -- there's a certain gratitude there to the One that made it. And when you get an animal, and you deal with an animal like that, and you see the intricacies of the internal workings; if you ever take an eye apart of an animal, it is a marvelous mechanism. All of this is hidden from the modern world because you go down to the supermarket with your trolley, and you pull it up off the shelf and stick it in your trolley, and that's how food comes. Milk comes out of a bottle.

Genesis 11:6-8 And the [ETERNAL] said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. (7) Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. (8) So the [ETERNAL]scattered them abroad from there upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

Now this was Babylon, the start of the Babylonian system; but you understand this verse 8, where the ETERNAL scattered them abroad, when you go back a chapter.

Genesis 10:5 By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

So it wasn't just a mixing up of the languages. It was a case that the different languages they suddenly started speaking were according to their families, so that they divided out according by family. And they were divided by tongue, by nations, within the Gentiles. Now within this, if you notice in chapter 10, the one that was behind it in verse 8.

Genesis 10:8-9 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. [Now you start putting it together regarding Nimrod, with Josephus and others.] (9) He was a mighty hunter before the [ETERNAL]: [He put himself before God.] wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the [ ETERNAL].

The great hunter before the Eternal. He protected the people from wild animals; and, in protecting them from wild animals, he then became their benefactor. And becoming their benefactor, they therefore gave him respect; but he therefore brought them under his umbrella.

Genesis 10:10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

But all these cities, of which Babylon in the chief, began from this mentality. We're looking at this Gentile rulership and an international city. And you look right the way down to this present time; and the society in which we work and the society in which we live is international in its nature, and it's an international flavor. I mean, the European Union extending its borders out into the eastern European Union. It's a trading block. We're looking at an extension, really, of what we're seeing within chapter 11 -- this internationalism, this benefactor status. And, as I brought out before, I never really understood this until I went into Africa, where it talks about the Gentile rulers being benefactors. It's a case of "I will benefit you, but you give me." In other words: you are coming under my protection. You will do, therefore, what I say.

You are able to go down to the supermarket and buy whatever you wish as long as the cucumbers are straight and they don't have a certain bend in it and as long as you're conformed to the 3,000 pages for cabbages or whatever it happens to be. As long as you do that and therefore you limit in such a way, you have 3,000 pages of rules and regulations for cabbages that nobody but a giant cabbage farmer is able to go ahead and comply to. You go to the supermarket that dictates the terms; and they will not look at you unless you've got say a 100,000 of anything. You immediately get rid of the way of the man "each under his vine and his fig tree." You get rid of that. You wipe out the small industry, and this is deliberately being designed. The world in which we find ourself today, this post-modern age, is along this line; and in agriculture, we can see it.

And being built in at the same time is a vulnerability; because once you've got everything under this huge corporate umbrella, and you do not have each little individual local area looking after itself, you then have an enormous vulnerability. You interrupt the oil supply, for instance, and you've got disruption on a big, mammoth scale. You have the destruction of our modern society and our modern world. Why? Because, people have given their entire control of everything to this all-encompassing government because it benefits them.

You can go down to the supermarket; and you can get strawberries in the middle of the winter, or you can go down and get grapes or whatever else you want from all over this world. And this has been given, and it's a great benefit. And it is a case where it's very similar to the way that Nimrod worked. He was a mighty hunter before the Eternal. You didn't have to rely on the Eternal to protect you. Nimrod will protect us, bring us all into cities, as long as we do what he says. And then he will protect us and give us everything that we want. And that is the basis for this modern world that we have.

Turn over to Revelation 18. And we can see that the agriculture of the future, as opposed to the agriculture that we see existing today, is just chalk and cheese. But how much is it affecting us? How much are we townies by nature? I'm not saying that we've all got to go out and have our own little plot, but I'm saying how much is our mindset that of a townie? That's not God's way. It's just not God's way. It's not the way of God.

Revelation 18:2-3 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, [So we just read about Nimrod and the start of Babylon, and we're now going right to the very end of history. We're looking at the decline and demise of Babylon.] and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. (3) For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

Now this is a woman, a church, riding a beast. It is both a woman, a church; and it is also a political system as well, that gives rise to a way of life; and the way of life is a controlling, domineering way of life. It is a Gentile mindset -- "abundance of her delicacies."

Revelation 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues.

We're not to be part and parcel of this system. Now we can't, as we'll go on and just have a look about commerce, we can't take ourself away from the work place. We've got to live in the world, but not be of that world. But eventually, it's going to get to a point where we can't even be in it because the mark of the beast will be applied; and it says we won't be able to buy or sell unless we have that mark. We can't buy, and sell, and keep the Sabbath. However it's going to be imposed, it won't be possible.

Revelation 18:11-12 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buys their merchandise any more: (12) The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk ...

I was watching something of the space probe, wasn't it? And they were catching sunrays or sun particles of sunlight. And the actual materials they use to catch this stuff, was it diamond as well as gold? They were all precious materials. They had all this kind of background of gold, gold foil with diamond or something collecting this sunlight -- rays or something. And they were going to have to catch it in mid-flight as it came back into the atmosphere. If they didn't do, that it would actually hit the ground (even with parachutes and so on). It was relatively a small package, and it would cause damage. They only had a minuscule amount to be able to sample this. But it says here "the merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones;" and many of these modern appliances have the gold connections on the computer components.

Revelation 18:12-13 ... and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble, (13) And cinnamon, and odors, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.

But we're looking here at the agricultural that will be looked after by this system; and, when it finally goes down, they're going to weep and wail because they see something that they have worked so hard for. But it is a system that makes the merchants of this earth rich. It keeps the status quo in place. It does not teach man, as a whole, about the reliance on God. It puts Nimrod as a mighty hunter, as a mighty provider, before the Eternal -- as a one who goes out and gives everybody everything it needs, before the Eternal -- so that the link between God and the food on our plate is simply missing. It is the supermarket that actually produces it. How much of that has actually affected us? How much of that is in our thinking?

Let's go quickly on, therefore, to commerce. Deuteronomy 6, along these exact same lines. You know, commerce. All of us out in business are involved in it to some degree. And, as they say, you can't come out of this world; but be aware that we are being affected by it. When did the family break up come about? Well, people say it's when the mother went out to work. No, it's not. It's when the father went out to work. It was when the father was no longer there to be the father figure in the home, in the break-up of the home. So when we're looking in sex and marriage and the relationship, we've got to realize that we are being affected by the fact that we do go out to work in the way that we do.

Deuteronomy 6:4-7 Hear, O Israel: [LISTEN] The [ETERNAL] our God is one [ETERNAL]: (5) And you shall love the [ETERNAL]thy God with all your heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. [I brought this out in the split sermon the other day.] (6) And these words, [This is how you do it.] which I command you this day, shall be in your heart: [Because it's from the heart; and it goes into the soul, the being, the physical being, to the might, to what is being done.] (7) And [having got that in the heart] you shall teach them diligently unto thy children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.

Now, when we're looking at commerce in the present society that we have today, how can this be done? How can we do that when we sit down, when we rise up, and so on? Apparently the cost of a child has now gone up to £120,000 per child. That's what they reckon. Do you know what the majority of that cost is? It's childcare. That's what the majority of that cost is -- childcare. It's so the woman can go out to work. And it costs about £45,000 -- a phenomenal amount -- in the early years.

And it says, and you'll "teach them diligently unto thy children." The figure that I quoted before, the father's income has gone up by 1% in the last studies, 20 years; but the mortgage percentage of income, the percentage of income that has to be devoted to the mortgage repayment, has gone up by 69%. The only way you can bridge that gap and the price of housing ... It's continuing to rise today within the UK. The only way you can bridge that gap is by having the woman go out to work. So what does the government do? "Oh we've got to have more childcare, better childcare. That's the answer." No, it's not. That's not God's way. That's not the way of God. That's not the way we are taught in scripture. And yet here we find that this is the way, to be taught within our homes. But turn over to John 17. We've got to be aware that, within the present system that we find ourself, we cannot take ourself out of it.

John 17:13-14 And now come I to you; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled [or filled to the full] in themselves. [In other words, Christ is speaking these words before He finally left this Earth.] (14)I have given them thy word; [Remember what we just read over in Deuteronomy? That the word that I speak to you this day must be in your heart, and from that all these other things flow. I have given them thy word.]and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

And again you can go and look into Hebrews 11. It says these looked upon themselves as strangers and pilgrims. And those that say such things declare that they are looking for another Kingdom, another government, another commerce.

John 17:14-15 ... because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. (15) I pray not that you should take them out of the world, but that you should keep them from the evil.

Or the Evil One, and from this broadcast that is going out. Are we? How much are we affected by it in the area of commerce? We've got to go out to work. We've got to go out and bring in money within this society. It's not the way of God. How much do we really understand that it's not the way of God? How much have we bought into the father of this modern age, this post-modern age that we're in, instead of the Father of the New Age to come, that we are looking forward to?

John 17:16-21 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. (17) Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. (18) As you hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. (19) And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. (20) Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; (21) That they all may be one; as you, Father, art in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that you hast sent me.

So there we are looking at the commerce of this world. We realize that we've got to go out to work, but we also realize that there is a different way. When we do go out to work, we need to be aware of what we're going out into, that we realize that this world is not going to be here forever. If we turn over to Ezekiel 28, here we see this anointed cherub that covers.

Ezekiel 28:14-18 You art the anointed cherub that covers; and I have set you so: you were upon the holy mountain of God; you hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. [This is where this post-modern world is coming from.] (15) You were perfect in thy ways from the day that you were created, till iniquity was found in you. (16) By the multitude of thy merchandise [or traveling. You look at transport in the oil-based industry, and the vulnerability that is there. It's all part and parcel of the same modern world we are in. The multitude of your merchandise.]they have filled the midst of you with violence, and you hast sinned: [You're trying to get for yourself, and you'll stop at nothing to do so.] therefore I will cast you as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will [remove you] destroy [your effect], O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. (17) Your heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, you hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast you to the ground, I will lay you before kings, that they may behold you. (18) You hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of your iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffic.

In this constant society today you've got environmentalists on the one side, who are dragging society one way; you've got big business on the other. You've got built-in obsolescence. These are not God's ways. They are not God's ways. His way is a family-based way. The family is crucial. It's not environmental, the way environmentalists look at it. Everything's got to go back to desert if it was desert, to forest if it was forest. You're not allowed to drain anything or whatever. Yes, by all means, you keep a pond upon your land because the frogs and the toads will do an awful lot of good against the slugs. But, you know, the way is not the way of God. We're looking for an age -- a new age -- that will be dawning.

So we finally come to relationships. And, if you'll turn over to 2nd Timothy, we find that the relationships in our present, post-modern age are actually described here.

II Timothy 3:1-2 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come [times of stress]. (2) For men shall be lovers of their own selves [And the relationships that we've got today is "If you can give me something, then I'll have a relationship with you. If you can't, then I don't love you anymore; and we'll go ahead and separate, or I'll give you a divorce and whatever else we need to do. We'll go our own way." And these casual relationships are being found all the time.], covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy.

II Timothy 3:5-7 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. (6) For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, (7) Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

It goes on about Jannes and Jambres. These cannibalistic Unas, Jannes {1} was a cannibal Pharaoh according to Josephus.

I mentioned to you before about Freud. Let me just read a little bit here from a book called Freudian Fraud.

"Freud's interest in the occult was well known to his peers. In 1911 he became a corresponding member of the Society for Psychical Research in London. In 1915 he was made an honorary fellow of the American Society for Psychical Research. He wrote a paper in 1921 on Psycho-Analysis and Telepathy but was dissuaded from publishing it by Earnest Jones, and other followers because of damage that might be done to the Psycho-Analytical Movement if it was linked to the occult. Freud, according to Jones, was invited to the Editor of three different periodicals devoted to the study of occultism. And Freud refused the office but confessed that if I had my life to live over again, I would devote myself to Psychical Research rather than to Psycho-Analysis."

This actually is part of what we have got today within our relationships, within the sexual side and certainly in the ideas that we find. One of the great advocates of Freud was another man you might know, a man called Dr. Benjamin Spock. He followed Freudian theory. And Spock, with his childcare books, basically laid the groundwork of our families. Is it any wonder that we are in the chaos that we're in? Our modern world has its roots going back into the 1800s, and it goes beyond there. It goes right the way back thousands of years before. It's part of a plan. We've got to be aware of it. We're not going to wander through life totally blind and stupid, listening to everything that comes our way from this modern world and accepting it, because that's exactly what Satan would love us to do -- because we then cannot teach in the future, because our minds are going to be warped. And in the area of sex and marriage, we are warped; and we've got to be aware of this.

Another one this is Dr. Louise Ames, co-director of the Gesell Institute of Child Development, who said that:

"most of the damage that we have seen in childrearing is the fault of the Freudian and the neo-Freudians who have dominated the field. They have frightened parents and kept the truth from them. In child care I would say that Freudianism has been the psychological crime of the century."

Because it's coming from Dr. Benjamin Spock. Benjamin Spock then took Freudian ideas, the idea that everything has a sexual basis, and then has extended into how it is applied. "You can't really criticize anybody." To give you an idea about the criticism about anybody, here's a man called Darrow who's written frequently about the lack of responsibility of criminals and their actions. It culminated in his book "Crime, Its Causes and Treatments" in 1922 in which Darrow argued:

"To start with: it seems to me to be clear that there is really no such thing as crime, as the word is generally understood. Every activity of man should come under the head of "behavior." In studying crime we are merely investigating a certain kind of human behavior. Man acts in response to outside stimuli. How he acts depends on the nature, strength, and inherent character of the machine and the habits, customs, inhibitions and experiences that environment gives him. Man is in no sense the maker of himself and has no more power than any other machine to escape the law of cause and effect. He does as he must. Therefore, there is no such thing as moral responsibility in the sense in which this expression is ordinarily used."

Now this kind of tripe is the basis of our modern society, and this guy was a lawyer who mounted a psychiatric defense of criminals. And he was one of the first ones to do so, giving "This poor little Johnny, I know he murdered his mother and the kids and all the rest of it; but you look at his upbringing, how terrible it was. Really, he wasn't responsible for his actions." And this was given as a defense for what this particular individual was doing.

Now, we're looking at the relationships. The relationships are affected. We're looking at housing today. Where do we live? Is it every man under his vine and fig tree? Or are we all in noisy places? In many cases, various places which are not our own that we live in? Shoddy workmanship is there. What about dress and fashion, the dress code ethics that we have today? I was reading an article about women shaving under their arms and legs and things. If it weren't for the revealing clothing, they wouldn't need to. So that comes from that. And if it wasn't for shaving under your arms and so on, therefore you wouldn't have to wear deodorant. Deodorant has aluminum compounds in it, and it is a possible link to breast cancer. It goes on, and on, and on -- in all of these areas.

Again the lifestyle, abortions, the morning-after pill, the Roman-Catholic repression, how much has that contributed? Because you have to have the repression first to be able to have this swing, which is a Freudian swing, in the relationship area. And the essence of today's relationships is there is no commitment. It's all temporary.

You remember what God said to Adam and Eve, He said, "Who told you, you were naked?" They said, "We hid from you because we were naked and we were ashamed." "Who told you, you were naked?" Somebody's telling us things through the things we watch from our television screen, through the education that we've had. It comes through the air. It comes in from the minds of other people. Satan is deceiving the entire world, including us.

Mr. Armstrong made an interesting comment on a tape we heard on a review of 1st Corinthians. He said, "Satan must have thought, when he went to knock God off His throne, that he could have been successful. By himself he couldn't; but with all the ones with him, that he could have been successful." Well, he wasn't a dummy. He wasn't stupid, although his mind had been twisted; and therefore there is a stupidity in that. But he was still a very intelligent being. He must have thought he could be successful. Today, he also feels that he can jeopardize God's plan. He knows who is to be replacing him. You and I are called to be teachers. That's the purpose. If he can have a world and a society which jeopardizes our ability to teach, if we are jeopardized in that regard, then we have some real problems. In Revelation 12, final scripture. Here this inset chapter where it is talking about the Church, and the true Church; and it talks about Satan and his relationship with it.

Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world.

It includes us when we're in this world, but we're not of it; but we have been deceived by it. So, when it says he "deceives the whole world," that includes the Church as well to some degree. But it makes the comment:

Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

They overcame this deception by the blood of the Lamb. Now you've got to understand. You need to know what to repent of before you can apply that blood, so you can turn from sin -- because you apply the blood to past sins. And then you turn with this newness of life, this Christ in us, with the Spirit of God guiding everything that we do. So we have the same words living within us, living by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. And we need to know what to repent of in order to turn to the right ways again.

You know, today he feels he can jeopardize God's plan by making us unfit to teach God's way. Our job is to ensure that does not happen. Our job is to submit ourselves to God, to overcome him by the blood of the Lamb through repentance, through turning. The next sermon I will be giving will be on the sexual relationship in marriage, and I'll treat that one area. Bear in mind this sermon as you hear that one area, just how much the very father of our post-modern age is Satan and his ideas.

{1} Taken from Compendium of World History Vol. 1 Chapter 3. Dr. Herman Hoeh, Doctoral Thesis, submitted 1962. With Unis the dynasty comes to a catastrophic end. (He was a contemporary of the Pharaoh who perished at the Red Sea.) The king died the night of the Passover. Unis was a firstborn; He was also a cannibal! After Moses left Egypt, he commenced the frightful practice of eating the firstborn of his enemies. That is one of the reasons God slew the firstborn of Egypt. From the pyramid-tomb of Unis one may read this horrible account of his life, his blasphemous claims, and his deeds.

"Behold, Unas hath arrived at the height of heaven .... Ra is on one side and Horus is on the other, and Unas is between them .... Unas hath weighed his word with the hidden god who hath no name, on the day of hacking in pieces the firstborn .... Unas devoureth men .... He ... cutteth off hairy scalps ... the cordmaster hath bound them for slaughter. Khonsu the slayer of ... hath cut their throats and drawn out their inward parts, for it was he whom Unas sent to drive them in: and Shesem hath cut them in pieces and boiled their members in his blazing cauldrons. Unas hath eaten their words of power, and he hath swallowed their spirits; the great ones among them serve for his meal at daybreak, the lesser serve for his meal at eventide, and the least among them serve for his meal at night. The old gods and the old goddesses become fuel for his furnace. The mighty ones in heaven shoot out fire under the cauldrons which are heaped up with the haunches of the firstborn; and he that maketh those who live in heaven to revolve around Unas hath shot into the cauldrons the haunches of their women of the gods in visible form. UNAS IS THE FIRSTBORN OF THE FIRSTBORN existence is ... and the offerings made unto him are more than those made unto the gods ..." (from E. A. Wallis Budge's "A History of Egypt", vol. II, pages 83-88.) Compare King Unis and his blasphemous claims with II Thessalonians 2:3-4. A remarkable analogy.

II Thessalonians 2:3-4 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; (4) Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
