EUROPE - The role of NATO is likewise seen as more important than it was, and in many nations people think they have been underinvesting in their armed forces. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has caused many people across Europe to reassess their views on defence policy, according to data from a recent YouGov poll conducted with the European University Institute for the 2022 State of the Union conference in Florence.
Over 40 years ago, God’s end time Apostle gave this warning in the January 1979 issue of the Plain Truth Magazine:
“The nations of Western Europe had formed the Common Market, solely an economic union. But there was a growing FEAR of Russia; a growing DOUBT of US protection from Communist military might; a growing and desperate desire among European leaders to UNITE politically, to provide their own military force, which would make them a third gigantic world military power, perhaps stronger than either the US or the USSR [Russia]” (The Plain Truth – January 1979)
