This is not strictly correct! My apologies, but I had written the wrong day in my notes - the 8th, instead of the 9th - which is the 24th Kislev. And though the city fell to the British on the 8th-9th December, Allenby himself did not actually enter Jerusalem until the 11th.
According to the account written by Allenby (see: http://www.firstworldwar.com/source/jerusalem_allenby1.htm) "the Turks had withdrawn during the night" of the 8th December 1917 - the beginning of 24th Kislev (as days within God's calendar begin at sunset) - leaving the city to the British (Ephraim). Then in the morning of the 9th (the daylight part of 24th Kislev) a group of local leaders brought the keys of the city to the British forces (but not to the general himself).
This date (8th-9th Dec - 24th Kislev) was the date given in Haggai for the laying of the foundation of the temple to which Christ came the first time. By passing the control of Jerusalem away from the Turks and into the hands of the British - the house of Israel (Ephraim - see Gen 48:16) - the foundation for the present position of the state of Israel was also laid. This is the region to which Christ will return the 2nd time. Though not the major fulfillment, the laying of this foundation, on this specific date, fits remarkably with the prophecy found in Hagg 2:18 "Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth [month, even] from the day that the foundation of the LORD'S temple was laid, consider [it]."
Finally, two days later, Allenby made his formal entry into the city. But the city had already fallen during the 8th-9th Dec 1917 - the exact date specified in Hagg 2:10,15,18,20.
My apologies for any confusion,
Jon Bowles
