USA - One day it will happen. With little or no warning, the Cascadia Subduction Zone will produce a catastrophic earthquake and accompanying tsunami that will essentially destroy everything west of Interstate 5 in the Pacific Northwest. It will be the worst natural disaster up to that point in American history, and as you will see below, the experts are saying that we are completely and utterly unprepared for it.
GERMANY - In the face of new challenges, Germany is recommitting itself to the Nato alliance. But what will playing a more central military role mean to a country that has often been accused of reluctance about its armed forces? On 25 October, Nato's major exercise Trident Juncture 18 kicks off in Norway. Trident Junction 18 in numbers, more than 40,000 participants, 31 nations (all 29 Nato members, Finland and Sweden) 130 aircraft, 70 naval vessels and more than 10,000 vehicles. This, the alliance's biggest exercise since 2002, will be an opportunity for German forces in particular to show their capabilities before they assume the command of the Alliance's Very High-Readiness Joint Task Force in 2019. For that year, German forces will be at the tip of Nato's spear.
USA - A former senior Facebook engineer who wrote a memo earlier this year decrying the social media giant’s “political monoculture” told Fox News on Tuesday night that the company has a “vocal minority” intent on implementing “social justice policies across our mission.”
USA - Could it be possible that the Federal Reserve is attempting to influence the outcome of the upcoming midterm elections? Just weeks before Americans will go to the polls, the Fed has been making headline after headline with talk about interest rate hikes. And they very well understand that interest rate hikes will rattle investors and slow down the economy. In fact, every Fed rate hiking cycle since 1957 has ended in either a stock market crash or a recession. So could the Federal Reserve be doing this on purpose in order to sabotage Donald Trump and the Republicans? Nobody is really asking this question, but perhaps we should be.
USA - Whenever Donald Trump talks about fake news, there are howls of indignation from the establishment media. We’re told that the very mention of “fake news” is a direct attack on our democracy, that the alternative is “darkness,” that it led to the dismemberment and murder of Jamal Khashoggi, and that, yes, every once in a while there might be a typo, but if you mean the media intentionally report false information, that is dangerous demagoguery.
USA - The Democratic Party’s Identity Politics’ successful demonization of white heterosexual males has made American universities unsafe for white heterosexual males. Any woman can accuse them of rape, and despite the absence of any evidence, and even in the face of complete evidence to the contrary, the university, in total violation of all known rules of due process, can convict the accused — indeed, conviction on accusation alone is mandatory in American universities — and destroy the reputation of the accused along with his ability to continue his education.
USA - After a Brooklyn occult shop made headlines with a public hexing of controversial Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanagh, exorcist Father Gary Thomas has stepped up to defend the judge’s spiritual flank with a well-timed mass. When he heard the self-styled witches’ coven was planning to put a curse on Kavanaugh, Thomas – a bona fide Rome-trained Catholic exorcist who was profiled in The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist, film and book – stepped up to defend the judge from the forces of evil.
UK - All livestock on an Aberdeenshire farm will be destroyed after a case of mad cow disease was identified, the first in Britain since 2015. A movement ban has been put on the estate in Huntley, 40 miles from Aberdeen, to prevent the disease spreading further, after one dead cow was diagnosed during routine testing. The Scottish Government said no infected meat has entered the food chain but said it had initiated its response plan and said an investigation has been launched to find out how the animal became infected. It is the first case in Scotland since 2009. North east MSP Peter Chapman, of the Scottish Conservatives, described the infection as "very concerning".
USA - Gene editing of food happens when scientists remove part of a plant or seed’s DNA sequence and replace it with bacteria or pathogens that would normally never grow that way in nature. There is absolutely no science proving this is safe for humans, so anyone who consumes genetically modified foods is playing Russian roulette with their health. If you’re into taking health RISKS, eat experimental peach-flavored strawberries, seedless tomatoes, non-browning mushrooms, and ultra-sweet strawberries.
ISRAEL - It appears that a major war between Israel and Hamas is imminent. For the past six months, Hamas has been staging violent protests along the Israeli border in an attempt to end the Israeli-Egyptian blockade. Those protests have escalated in recent weeks as Egyptian efforts to broker a long-term ceasefire have faltered.
ISRAEL - Israel needs to decide if it is headed toward war in Gaza, Avigdor Lieberman says, and a military blow 'is the only way to lower the level of violence to zero or close to zero'. Defense Minister Avidgor Lieberman said on Tuesday that Israel must decide if it is headed toward another war with Hamas in Gaza. According to Lieberman, the security cabinet should order a military blow against the Islamist group "even at a price of moving to a wide-scale confrontation." "My opinion is very clear. We must land a strong blow against Hamas. That's the only way to lower the level of violence to zero or close to zero."
USA - The US federal budget deficit rose in fiscal year 2018 to the highest level in six years as spending climbed, the Trump administration said Monday. The deficit jumped to $779 billion, $113 billion or 17 percent higher than the previous fiscal period, according to a statement from Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney.
USA - (From the Washington Post) Insects around the world are in a crisis, according to a small but growing number of long-term studies showing dramatic declines in invertebrate populations. A new report suggests that the problem is more widespread than scientists realized. Huge numbers of bugs have been lost in a pristine national forest in Puerto Rico, the study found, and the forest's insect-eating animals have gone missing, too. In 2014, an international team of biologists estimated that, in the past 35 years, the abundance of invertebrates such as beetles and bees had decreased by 45 percent. In places where long-term insect data are available, mainly in Europe, insect numbers are plummeting. A study last year showed a 76 percent decrease in flying insects in the past few decades in German nature reserves.
UK - The famous theoretical physicist died in March this year at the age of 76 but left behind some truly astonishing predictions in his final book which has just been released. One of his bold predictions in his book titled Brief Answers To The Big Questions was that God does not exist. He described his claim there is no afterlife or higher power as a “profound realisation”.
ARGENTINA - The G-20 in Buenos Aires on November 30 could set the world on fire – perhaps literally. Let’s start with the US-China trade war. Washington won’t even start discussing trade with China at the G-20 unless Beijing comes up with a quite detailed list of potential concessions.
