FRANCE - There is a “real danger” that France’s democracy will be destroyed by its next president, the leader of the country’s federation of Jewish communities warned ahead of the elections. Francis Kalifat, the president of the CRIF umbrella group of French Jewish communities, sounded the alarm during an interview Friday with the RJC Jewish radio station ahead of the first round Sunday of the presidential elections.

French Election: End of Europe as We Know It?

EUROPE - Just a month ago, the leaders of 27 of the 28 members of the European Union gathered for a special meeting commemorating the signing of the Treaty of Rome, establishing the European Economic Community, the forerunner of what would become the EU. The absence of Theresa May, prime minister of the UK, the first country to decide to leave the EU, dampened the festivities somewhat. But much worse could be in store.

French voters push mainstream parties to the sidelines

FRANCE - French centrist Emmanuel Macron and far-right candidate Marine Le Pen have qualified for the second round in the French presidential election with 23.7 percent and 21.7 percent of the vote respectively. French President François Hollande has called on voters to block Le Pen and vote for Macron. Conservative leader François Fillon conceded defeat and called on supporters to vote Macron. Socialist Party candidate Benoît Hamon, who got just 6.2% of the vote, said he took full responsibility for the election drubbing.

Do You Know How Much It Costs To Buy A 9 Year Old Girl?

USA - The Sickness Of ISIS Has Just Informed Us. ISIS has just released a pamphlet that shows exactly how much they are selling captive Christian and Yazidi females for. It is a sliding scale based on the woman’s age, and the younger the girl, the more expensive she is.

Chinese army to be restructured to make it a 'world-class military'

CHINA - Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced a military restructure of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) to transform it into a leaner fighting force with improved joint operations capability, state media said. Centred around a new, condensed structure of 84 military units, the reshuffle builds on Xi's years-long efforts to modernise the PLA with greater emphasis on new capabilities including cyberspace, electronic and information warfare.

Police-Inflicted Injuries Send More than 50,000 to Emergency Rooms EVERY YEAR

USA - A new study published by JAMA Surgery found that from 2006 to 2012, there were approximately 51,000 emergency department visits per year for patients injured by law enforcement in the United States, with this number stable over this time period. Lead study author Dr Elinore Kaufman, a surgical resident at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City, told Live Science that mental illness was common, affecting 20 percent of people injured. She added that the study’s estimate of 51,000 emergency room visits per year does not include deaths that occur at crime scenes or people who are injured but do not seek medical attention.

NORTH KOREA - Russia has moved heavy military equipment towards its border with North Korea amid mounting fears of a military clash between Pyongyang and the United States over the North’s nuclear program.

Mattis: Kim Jong-Un’s Bombastic Nuclear Threats Are Hollow

USA - North Korea’s been making a lot of noise lately regarding nuclear strikes, but Secretary of Defense James Mattis says their threats may not ring true. “As far as North Korea’s latest words (are concerned), I think we’ve all come to hear their words repeatedly, their word has not proven honest,” Mattis said in Tel Aviv, Israel, Friday. The day before, the North threatened to reduce the US to ashes.

EUROPE - The Arctic Ocean is a “dead-end” for plastic pollution coming from northwest Europe, the UK, and the east coast of the US, according to a new study, which describes the waterway as a “conveyor belt” of synthetic filth. Researchers from 12 institutions in eight countries took part in the study, which was published in the journal Science Advances on Wednesday.

Russia court outlaws 'extremist' Jehovah's Witnesses

RUSSIA - Russia's Supreme Court has accepted the government's request to designate Jehovah's Witnesses as an outlawed religious group, deeming it to be an extremist organisation. The justice ministry argued that the group had distributed pamphlets which incited hatred against other groups. The denomination says it has 175,000 members in Russia - a country where it was persecuted during the Stalin era. An estimated eight million people worldwide are part of the Christian-based movement, best known for going door-to-door looking for new converts.

Raw Milk Is Poison — Legislators Claim While Maintaining Ban

USA - Raw milk is still illegal in Montana, as the state’s Senate killed a bill that would have allowed for limited sales of the unpasteurized product. “It does not provide adequate disease, drug or antibiotic testing,” Krista Lee Evans said of House Bill (HB) 325. Evans represents the Montana Milk Producers Association. Others agreed. “We have found through the years and years of public health work … that pasteurization does its work,” state Senator Jill Cohenour, a Democrat, said. “It protects us from the sicknesses that can come from raw milk.” HB 325 was written and introduced by State Representative Nancy Ballance and sponsored in the Senate by Keith Regier. Both are Republicans. “Processing foods takes valuable nutrients out of the food,” Regier said. “Steamed or raw vegetables are said to be healthier. Many of you eat salad with raw ingredients.”

We have the freedom to choose, but...

USA - The ingredients for the “perfect storm” that so many watchmen have been warning about for ages are starting to come together right before our eyes.  We are closer to World War III than we have been in decades, our politicians are openly admitting that our relations with Russia are at “an all-time low”, the federal government is 20 trillion dollars in debt, our nation is on the verge of being torn apart by strife and civil unrest, the financial markets are primed for a crash of epic proportions, there are mass die-offs of animals all over the globe, and natural disasters are happening with frightening regularity as the crust of our planet rattles and shakes.

UK General election campaigning begins

UK - Campaigning is under way after the House of Commons backed Theresa May's call for a general election on 8 June. MPs voted by 522 votes to 13 - with Labour and Lib Dem helping secure the two-thirds majority needed to bring forward the election from 2020. The prime minister urged voters to "give her the mandate to speak for Britain and to deliver for Britain". Jeremy Corbyn said a Labour government would stop Mrs May from using Brexit to make the UK an "offshore tax haven". Speaking in Croydon on his first campaign stop, the Labour leader said if elected, he would raise the minimum wage to £10 an hour and increase spending on the NHS, social care and council housing.

President Trump Will Meet with Pope Francis in May

USA - Contrary to earlier reports, President Donald Trump will meet with Pope Francis when he travels to Italy next month for meetings with the G7 leaders, US and Vatican officials said Wednesday. When asked about a possible meeting, White House press spokesman Sean Spicer told reporters that officials would be contacting the Vatican to arrange a meeting between Trump and the Pope during the latter’s visit to Italy at the end of May. “Obviously, we’d be honored to have an audience with His Holiness,” he said. For his part, Archbishop Angelo Becciu, the Vatican equivalent of a deputy prime minister, confirmed to the Italian news agency ANSA that “Pope Francis is always ready to receive heads of state who request an audience.”

Pesticide residues detected in almost all European foods

EUROPE - More than 97% of European food products contain pesticide residues, according to analyses carried out by the EU’s national authorities. The European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) annual compilation of results from studies across the EU on the presence of pesticides in food products held no surprises. Of the 84,341 samples of produce from conventional agriculture analysed, 97.2% contained traces of one or more of 774 pesticides. Meanwhile, 99.3% of organic food was free from residues or within legal limits. To meet EU standards, the residues of any pesticide present in a product must not exceed two times the legal limit. But these values are highly contested, particularly for endocrine disruptors, which can be active at very low concentrations.
