USA - Two months ago, when I was in Ohio visiting my daughter, I was given an insight into the early indicators of a Trump victory. The clues were there, but I didn’t fully understand what I was seeing. At that time, I had no inkling of the depth and breadth of rural dissatisfaction that would elect a Donald Trump as President. What I learned is that agricultural America felt not only ignored and forgotten, it felt rejected and despised by America’s political elite, and that any candidate who could hurt that elite was worth their vote.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA - A huge earthquake measuring 6.9 magnitude struck off the coast of New Britain island in Papua New Guinea this morning, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said. The quake was so powerful that it was felt as far away as the capital Port Moresby, 750 km (460 miles) away on the country's south coast. Papua New Guinea is on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" which has frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. In July 1998, two undersea quakes measuring 7.0 magnitude created three tsunamis that killed at least 2,100 people near the town of Aitape on Papua New Guinea's north coast.
ARGENTINA - A huge earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 has struck north-western Argentina, just hours after quakes were also recorded in New Zealand and Chile. The earthquake struck at just after 8am local time or 2pm GMT, and centred around 16 miles norther of Chilecito in La Rioja - near the Chilean border. The quake is ranked as somewhere between a moderate and major incident, according to the Richter scale. Another 5.7 earthquake has also been recorded just a few miles north, with a depth of 121 km. The country's seismic authority also reported three smaller earthquakes on Sunday.
New Zealand has issued a tsunami warning amid multiple tremors following a 7.4 earthquake that rocked the country's South Island. The epicentre was recorded 57 miles north-northeast of Christchurch on the east coast of New Zealand's South Island.
EUROPE - European politicians have said that Donald Trump’s election victory in the US will act as a catalyst for a revolution across Europe. Prospective leaders across the continent say that the crumbling European project is set to be shaken up with major changes as various elections are due to be held in the coming year.
GERMANY - After Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential elections, the German government announced that it will continue its close cooperation with the United States and is calling for enhancing Germany's position in the transatlantic relationship. Chancellor Angela Merkel "offered" President-elect Donald Trump "close cooperation" on the basis of particular conditions.
GERMANY - The German elites are using the US presidential election and the “dirtiest election campaign of modern times” (Der Spiegel) as an excuse to promote the return of German militarism. In the past week, the World Socialist Web Site commented on a paper of the German government-connected think tank Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP), titled “Even without Trump much will change.”

USA - Stop the insanity! Days after Donald Trump stunned the world by winning the presidency, liberal America remains in the throes of a massive mental and emotional meltdown. Anti-Trump protests have spread to more cities and continue to turn violent. In Portland Thursday night, rioters stoned police and vandalized businesses and cars.
EUROPE - The EU’s days might be numbered with Italy about to vote on a referendum which could send shockwaves across the continent. Analysts believe the outcome of the ballot on constitutional reform could have massive global implications. With many European leaders already coming under severe pressure from anti-EU parties ahead of elections next year the significance of the Italian result is huge.
GERMANY - The German Defense Minister said on Monday that the European Union must match NATO’s drive to protect the continent against Russia’s build-up. She also underscored that she was looking for complementarity rather than competition between the two bodies.
UK - A former senior military officer and Conservative MEP has dismissed the idea more money needs to be pumped into building a European army. The comments from Geoffrey Van Orden come as the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee is set to vote on a report calling for action following the threat of terrorism, conflict in the Middle East and increased aggression from Russia.
