RUSSIA - Western sanctions have so far failed to halt Russia’s economic growth, which is now projected to outpace that of the Eurozone, the Guardian reported on Thursday, citing investment firm Amundi. According to the company’s forecast, Russia’s gross domestic product (GDP) will grow by 1.5% in 2024. In contrast, the Eurozone economy is set to expand by mere 0.5% next year, according to Amundi, Europe’s largest fund manager in terms of assets. “It means that the United States, Europe, Japan, Australia – the major developed countries – are unable to sanction a country effectively… We can deplore it, but it’s a reality,” Amundi CIO Vincent Mortier said at a news conference in Paris.

The key takeaway from the report is that Disney, as required by law in these filings, is warning investors that its social goals are more important than profits. “There is in such things a statement of the various ‘Risk factors’ the company may encounter,” explains That Park Place, “all in the obligatory legal way to avoid people later saying ‘You never warned us about this!!’” In other words, in this annual report, Disney must warn stockholders and potential stockholders of the risks these investors are accepting if they hold or choose to purchase Disney’s ailing stock.
AUSTRALIA - Rats have taken over the fishing village in Queensland in northeastern Australia, climbing on boats, chewing through cars and homes, and devouring crops, according to the reports in the local media. Thousands of dead rodents have also been filmed washed ashore on the beaches in the area. The endemic long-haired rats have been arriving in Karumba in huge numbers from the south using waterways for “a few weeks” now, local resident Jon Jensen told broadcaster Nine News on Wednesday. The residents of the village of some 500 have been using bait and traps in an attempt to get the infestation under control. They’ve been also helped by predators, including wedge-tailed eagles and the whistling kites, who have been feasting on the rats so that “they can barely get off the ground because they've got their guts full,” Jensen said.

A full grown tree absorbs around 20kg/yr, so for 500k tons, we’d need 25 million trees, which would need a forest space of 250 square km (1000 trees/hectare). Knowing that the cost of tree planting is around 20 cents, a 250 sq km forestation would cost $5 million. All this while producing 2.7 million tons of oxygen. So why again are they building those [direct air capture plants]?

NETHERLANDS - Right wing nationalist Geert Wilders has won a 'monster victory' in the general election in the Netherlands sending shockwaves around the nation and the rest of Europe. The 60-year-old heads up the Party for Freedom (PVV), which ran on an anti-immigration and anti-Islam platform, taking 37 seats in the election - more than any other party. The result, which more than doubled his party's previous share, puts Wilders - described as the 'Dutch Trump' - in a favourable position for upcoming coalition talks with the roughly half-dozen other parties that hold a significant number of seats.

With the Christmas season approaching quickly, Target has a special gift for Americans: a woke Christmas. Shoppers can expect to see “gay Santas and LGBTQ-themed nutcrackers” on Target’s shelves of this season, the Washington Examiner reported.

ISRAEL - The Israeli government approved a deal Tuesday night that will see the Palestinian Hamas terror group release at least 50 female, child, and elderly hostages over four days, in return for a pause in the fighting in the Gaza Strip. In return, Israel will release a greater number of convicted Palestinians — though none who have been convicted of murder. Israel will resume the fight as soon as the hostages are delivered and the four-day period is over, as it works to destroy Hamas.
USA - “Interest on the federal debt is now so immense that it’s consuming 40% of all personal income taxes… If federal finances continue on their current path, we are only a few years from the entirety of income taxes being needed to finance the debt…” The government collects $2.6 trillion of individual taxes at the point of a gun and threat of prison. Meanwhile they still operate at an annual deficit of $2 trillion. And this is before interest on the national debt starts to really skyrocket. Our Secretary of the Treasury Yellen had the opportunity to lock in trillions of our national debt for 30 years at 2% rates, but purposely kept rolling it on a short-term basis.
USA - There is a reason why I am watching the banks so carefully. The banks are the beating heart of our economic system, and so if they get into big trouble we will all feel the pain. That is precisely what happened in 2008, and that is precisely what is happening again right now. In recent months there have been endless banking “glitches”, banks have been shutting down hundreds of branches and laying off thousands of workers, and lenders are getting really tight with their money because they are sitting on hundreds of billions of dollars of unrealized losses.
USA - In normal times we anticipate the splendid gluttony of the American Thanksgiving, the fellowship of family and friends, with gratitude and remembrance of overcoming ordeals past. This year, though, we are a bit preoccupied with ordeals to come, and that nip in the November air conjures rumors of approaching hardship and cruelties we have no idea how we might overcome. Perhaps the anxious gloom pervading this year’s Thanksgiving is due to the dread of what comes next. These are not normal times.
GERMANY - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will agree to greater cooperation on issues from energy to defence at an intergovernmental summit in Berlin on Wednesday, the first in seven years, according to government sources. With Scholz from the centre-left Social Democrats and Meloni from the rightist Brothers of Italy, the two leaders and their governments make for unlikely allies. Yet with Europe facing war on its doorstep in Ukraine, worries over illegal migration and a scramble for new sources of energy, the leaders of the eurozone's first- and third-largest economies have rallied on a number of issues of late. These include the construction of a pipeline to transport gas and hydrogen between the two countries and approaches to tackle illegal migration. The German stance on illegal migration has converged more with the Italian one. It has switched to a tougher stance in view of rising arrivals and complaints from local authorities that they cannot deal with the surge. Scholz has said for example he would look closely at Italy's deal with Albania to build two reception and detention camps there for migrants arriving by sea.
