The military draft should be reinstated and the number of troops "be raised to 23,000 soldiers" – as a "first step." An additional 50,000 man reserves would be necessary. The German military, it literally states, "would be authorized to intervene domestically." The "foreign duties" of the Bundeswehr should be exercised "in every corner of the earth." In Europe: it lays "claim to a military commanding role" – because of "Germany's geographic situation and economic prominence."

The highest command level will be a German "General Staff." Germany should also be in command of the European NATO. And finally, being the commanding nation, Germany must insist on "participation" in NATO's "nuclear capabilities."

“Let’s let our negotiators get on with their work, without that sword of Damocles over their necks, and without an election, without an election,” he said. “I don’t want an election, you don’t want an election. Let’s get on with the people’s agenda.” Despite Johnson’s comment, Downing Street said later Monday night that Johnson would call an early election if his opponents in Parliament manage to pass legislation that would block his plans for a departure from the EU by the October 31 deadline. His goal would be to gain a majority in a new Parliament that would back his Brexit stance.

Politico reported this week that FEC Chairwoman Ellen Weintraub is hosting the event and summoned the tech giants. Her invitation reads, “The goal of the symposium will be to identify effective policy approaches and practical tools that can minimize the disruption and confusion sown by fraudulent news and propaganda in the 2020 campaign,” according to the outlet.

CNET reported that the event will be co-hosted by PEN America, a free speech advocacy group. It has rapped Trump for his criticism of the media. Some conservatives, including the former Republican FEC chairman who raised suspicions of censorship efforts against right-leaning media like Drudge and Fox, warned that the event could lead to a crackdown on online speech.

“The FEC has no business policing the truth or accuracy of speech of any kind by American citizens on the internet,” said Lee Goodman, a former Republican FEC chairman. He led a bid to protect conservative media and openly suggested that outlets like Drudge could run into trouble with liberal political speech police.

The latest evidence of this discrepancy to make it into the US financial press arrived this weekend, courtesy of Bloomberg's annual Sushinomics Index, a novel cost-of-living gauge which tracks changes in prices for the popular Japanese cuisine across different metropolitan areas. As it turns out, sushi prices are a fairly reliable proxy for the cost of living in a given area. For example, New York and San Francisco - the two most expensive cities in the US - also sport the highest sushi prices.

Sushi price inflation was 6.7% in Charlotte and 6% in Houston over the last 12 months, according to BBG. More Americans are flocking to these cities, pushing up prices for amenities like sushi and staples like rent, as the prohibitive cost of living in coastal enclaves like NYC forces more people to look for alternatives.

So far, 2019 has seen the largest gap - 6.5 percentage points - between sushi prices and the CPI since BBG created its national Sushi Index in 2011. Pardon the pun, but we're starting to think there's something 'fishy' about the official inflation data.

De Vos is now facing four charges of unprofessional conduct from the Health Professions Council of South Africa at an inquiry which has commenced this week. According to the report, de Vos allegedly "infringed" the patient's "autonomy with his anti-abortion utterances."

This morning Britain stands on the brink of a second civil war. The Kamikaze Remainers are heading for the barricades – quite literally – in an attempt to prevent the usurpation of democracy. Bridges are to be seized. Streets occupied. The Prime Minister’s ‘declaration of war will be met with an iron fist,’ announced Lib Dem Brexit spokesman Tom Brake.

And, once again, the Kamikaze Remainers are allowing self-righteous outrage to blind them to reality. Despite the hysterical talk of a hard-Brexit ‘coup’, Mr Johnson hasn’t prorogued Parliament in order to force through a No Deal Brexit. He has prorogued Parliament precisely so he can drive through a deal and avoid a No Deal Brexit.

All the haughty expressions of democratic outrage we have heard over the past few days ignore a single, simple fact. The people of Britain voted to leave the European Union in the biggest expression of popular will ever seen in this country since the introduction of the universal franchise. And, more than three years later, our politicians persistently and pig-headedly refuse to respect and implement that democratic instruction.

‘Boris Johnson is acting like an unelected dictator,’ they cry while literally plotting to install Jeremy Corbyn or Harriet Harman or Ken Clarke in Downing Street. Who is really acting like the dictator this morning? The person who is attempting to force Parliament to act in concert with the wishes of the people who elected them? Or those who are again attempting to impose a never-ending parliamentary veto over the wishes of the voters? A coup is indeed under way. But it is not being mounted by the Prime Minister.

Mr Rees-Mogg, who went to Balmoral to gain the Queen's approval for the dramatic suspension last week, lays down the gauntlet as an exclusive Mail on Sunday poll predicts Mr Johnson would win a majority of 28 seats in an Election – rising to 84 if Nigel Farage's Brexit Party stands aside. Plotters including former Chancellor Philip Hammond hope to seize control of the Commons agenda from the Government this week, allowing them to pass laws that would thwart No Deal.

Jacob Rees-Mogg: Ignore all the hysteria and overblown caricatures. This is just another conflict between those still scheming to overturn Brexit and a PM battling to do what voters demanded three years ago. Those who create political hysteria are playing with fire. If politicians claim that democracy is under direct attack, or suggest there has been a coup d'etat, some of their supporters will take them seriously.

If prominent novelists speak of ropes and lampposts – the language of the lynch mob – then their readers may well be influenced by it. The divisions in this country are already quite bad enough. The disagreements are deeper and more personal than at any time since the appeasement crisis of more than 80 years ago or the Suez Crisis of more than 60 years ago. What good purpose is served by making them worse through lurid language and wild exaggeration?

On Tuesday a cross-party group plans to take over the Commons agenda to pass a law ruling out No Deal and ordering Mr Johnson to seek another extension. Up to 20 Tory MPs, including former Cabinet ministers Philip Hammond, David Gauke and Rory Stewart, are threatening to support the move. This could wreck the PM's 'do or die' departure promise. A source in the Tory whips office last night confirmed that the order had gone out that MPs who rebel would be expelled from the parliamentary party.

The insider said: 'The whips are telling Conservative MPs today a very simple message – if they fail to vote with the Government on Tuesday they will be destroying the Government's negotiating position and handing control of Parliament to Jeremy Corbyn. 'Any Conservative MP who does this will have the whip withdrawn and will not stand as a Conservative candidate in an election. The Remainer meeting with Mr Johnson was due to kick off a frenzied week in Parliament that could decide the fate of the UK.

As the rhetoric ramped up, Mr Johnson told the Sunday Times: 'I just say to everybody in the country, including everyone in parliament, the fundamental choice is this: are you going to side with Jeremy Corbyn and those who want to cancel the referendum?' 'Are you going to side with those who want to scrub the democratic verdict of the people - and plunge this country into chaos.'

Things were no better this year when Germany took control of Nato’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force, charged with combatting the threat from Russia. Germany promised to have 44 Leopard 2 tanks and 14 Marder armoured infantry vehicles available for the task, yet in the event could only muster nine and three respectively. We may no longer be at risk of Germany putting its military to aggressive use. But there is little sign that it has the organisation and competence to fulfil its role as a Nato member, let alone form the heart of a European defence force.
