EUROPE - The bloc is “sleepwalking into oblivion” and could soon meet the same end as the Soviet Union, Soros prophesied. In order to avoid catastrophe, he argued, right-minded political parties must resist the lure of EU skepticism sweeping across the continent and “put Europe’s interests ahead of their own.” He chastised Germany’s ruling coalition for not being adequately pro-EU out of fear of losing votes to the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD), while praising the German Greens for being “the only consistently pro-European party in the country.”
VATICAN - To keep silent about the truths of the Catholic faith or to teach the contrary is a form of religious deception that comes from the anti-Christ, said Cardinal Gerhard Muller. The purpose of the church and its members, he said, is to lead people to Jesus, so all Catholics, but especially priests and bishops, "have a responsibility to recall these fundamental truths" and to strengthen the faith "by confessing the truth which is Jesus Christ himself."
GERMANY - A German Catholic cardinal who was ousted from a high doctrinal position by Pope Francis said in a “manifesto of faith” that the church has become too focused on mercy instead of traditional doctrine. Gerhard Cardinal Mueller didn’t refer to Francis by name, but took jabs at his willingness to allow remarried Catholics to receive Communion, and asserted women cannot be ordained priests. The pope commissioned a study on female deacons. Francis sacked Mueller as prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 2017. Mueller’s manifesto was released late Friday, but carries the date of February 10 — the eve of the sixth anniversary of Francis’ predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI’s historic announcement that he would resign. Many conservative Catholics are nostalgic for the doctrinal clarity of Benedict’s reign.
GERMANY - Germany is the birthplace of Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation, but since the middle of the 20th century, the country has seen a dramatic shift away from Protestantism – one that has greatly outpaced a decline in the share of Germans who are Catholic. Protestants represented a majority (59%) of Germany’s population in 1950, with Catholics as a sizable minority (37%), according to research by Detlef Pollack and Olaf Müller, scholars of religion and sociology at the University of Münster in Germany. These shares are largely based on church membership rolls that include both children and adults. Over the next 60 years, the share of Protestants fell 30 percentage points, while the share of Catholics dropped 7 points. Each group now includes roughly three-in-ten Germans, based on 2010 membership data. Among German Christians, however, Catholics are more likely than Protestants to profess nationalistic attitudes and to express anti-immigrant and anti-religious minority attitudes.
EUROPE - With the approach of the May elections to the EU Parliament, a pro-EU think tank has sounded an alarm over the burgeoning Euroskeptics, expected to take some 30 percent of seats. Needless to say, the report paints a very dim picture of a European future if Euroskeptics manage to secure the expected 28 – or even 30 – percent of seats in the EU Parliament in the May elections, as opinion polls indicate. According to the report, Euroskeptic parties from all across Europe – both left and right-wing – are bent on "paralyzing" the bloc.

GERMANY - The new leader of Germany's ruling Christian Democrats, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, unveiled plans for a tightening of immigration rules, part of a move to distance the party under her leadership from her mentor and predecessor, Chancellor Angela Merkel. Some of the proposals, including plans for "intelligent spot checks" at German borders for as long as the European Union's external borders are not secured, could strain ties with her Social Democrat (SPD) coalition partners. But officials hope the plans, announced after two days of internal party discussions to which Merkel was not invited, will show the party has moved on from the Chancellor's signature decision to let in over a million refugees in 2015. "What happened in September 2015 and after was a humanitarian exception," she told her CDU party. "We must make sure nothing like it ever happens again, that we have learned our lessons."
HUNGARY - Hungarian foreign minister Péter Szijjártó has revealed that his government blames the European Union for the British people’s vote for Brexit in 2016, and admitted it will inflict a huge blow to the bloc in economic and security terms, in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News. “We regret it a lot, the decision of the British people [to vote for Brexit],” the Hungarian statesman told Breitbart’s Deputy Political Editor Amanda House.

During his remarks he once again stressed the need for global unity, and he encouraged those attending to embrace “sustainable development”, but he also stressed that sustainable development will never succeed without “solidarity”.
USA - A California judge will decide on Monday if the 14 “secret” pro-abortion “Does” named as accusers in 15 criminal charges brought against pro-life advocate David Daleiden in 2017 will be revealed. Daleiden, 30, is the undercover journalist and director of the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) who in 2015 released grisly videos allegedly exposing Planned Parenthood’s illegal harvesting and sale for profit of body parts from aborted babies.
UK - Eating white bread and ready meals could be killing us, according to the first major study linking “ultra-processed” food with early death. The study of 45,000 middle-aged people found that every 10 per cent increase in intake of “ultra-processed food” was linked to a 14 per cent increased risk of death within the next eight years. Previous research has linked consumption of foods like white bread, ready meals, sausages, sugary cereals, fizzy drinks to a higher risk of high blood pressure and cancer. But the new study is the first major investigation linking high consumption of processed foods to higher overall mortality rates.
