UK - The deepest marine organisms known to humans are contaminated by plastics, according to a study published Wednesday. Researchers presented “the deepest record of microplastic ingestion, indicating it is highly likely there are no marine ecosystems left that are not impacted by plastic pollution,” according to the paper in Royal Society Open Science. Led by Alan Jamieson, a marine ecologist at Newcastle University, the team examined the guts of small organisms called lysianassid amphipods — colloquially known as “sea fleas” — collected from six deep ocean habitats.
USA - The death toll has increased to 22 in eastern Alabama where a tornado swept through the region Sunday afternoon leaving a widespread trail of damage and destruction, according to news outlets. "We are at 22 right now. Unfortunately, I feel like that number may rise yet again," Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said, according to The Associated Press. More than 40 people were injured in what weather experts are calling an “outbreak of tornadoes” that ripped through parts of Alabama, Georgia and Florida. Reports indicate the town of Cairo, Georgia, on the border with Florida, sustained major damage. Local news outlets are reporting dozens of homes and several businesses were damaged, and people were trapped in their homes from the debris, but there were no reports of injuries or death.
UK - It was after having dinner with a friend in London’s Canary Wharf that I first became suspicious. We had settled into our seats and arranged our belongings – my iPhone placed in front of me on the table, as usual – when I noticed my companion was struggling to read the menu without glasses. ‘I thought you’d had laser eye surgery?’ I asked. ‘Yes,’ she replied. ‘But it only works for long distance.’ It was a mundane conversation between friends, just like any other that takes place at countless dinner tables across Britain – but one which, in fact, turned into something altogether more unsettling.
USA - “We know where you are. We know where you’ve been. We can more or less know what you’re thinking about… Your digital identity will live forever... because there’s no delete button.” — Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt. Big Brother wants you. To be technically accurate, Big Brother — aided and abetted by his corporate partners in crime — wants your data. That’s what we have been reduced to in the eyes of the government and Corporate America: data bits and economic units to be bought, bartered and sold to the highest bidder.
JAPAN - 'Suicide' doll's maker says children should have no more nightmares about his terrifying creation because he has destroyed it. The creator of the doll that has been terrorising children this week insists they have nothing to fear as the hideous creation has 'rotted away'. Speaking from his nightmare factory in Tokyo Japan, 43-year-old Keisuke Aiso said that Momo is dead. 'It doesn't exist anymore, it was never meant to last. It was rotten and I threw it away. The children can be reassured Momo is dead - she doesn't exist and the curse is gone,' he told The Sun.
USA - At a moment when the country has never seemed angrier, two political commentators from opposite sides of the divide concurred last week on one point, nearly unthinkable until recently: The country is on the verge of "civil war." First came former US attorney Joseph diGenova, a Fox News regular and ally of President Trump. "We are in a civil war," he said. "The suggestion that there's ever going to be civil discourse in this country for the foreseeable future is over… It's going to be total war."
USA - The United States is expected to move ahead with the downgrade of its mission to the Palestinians on Monday by merging its Jerusalem consulate with the embassy in Israel, a US official said Saturday. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said when announcing the merger in October that it was intended to improve “efficiency and effectiveness” and did not constitute a change in policy. But Palestinian leaders have seen the decision as another move against them by the Trump administration, which they froze contact with after US President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in 2017.
USA - We’ve now reached a point on the insanity curve where Democrats label as “fake” all the real issues facing our nation such as open borders mass illegal migration. At the same time, the issues they label “real” are wholly fabricated, delusional scare stories such as “climate change” or the Russia collusion hoax, which is really just an elaborate political version of the Jussie Smollett hate crime hoax.
EUROPE - As exasperation grows in Europe about US leadership of the Atlantic alliance, France has taken the bold and unprecedented step of pledging to extend its nuclear deterrent to cover German territory in the case of armed aggression. Mounting alarm in Berlin and Paris about the reliability of the United States is pushing both governments to take actions that once seemed inconceivable.
NIGERIA - The international media will take little notice of this. After all, it isn’t as if something serious such as “Islamophobia” were being committed. Over 30 Nigerian Christians were killed in a brutal early morning attack by radical Islamic Fulani herdsmen, who have been systematically targeting believers living on lands the extremists claim to be their territory.
CANADA - 6,129 Ontario student suspension notices issued from schools in Waterloo, Ontario region because of immunization records. Waterloo Public Health officials told CBC News that they will soon be giving out 6,129 suspension orders. In order to avoid their kids getting suspended, the parents of these Ontario students will need to show proof that their kids have been immunized by March 26th. The only other way to avoid suspension is if there is a valid reason for exemption, according to CBC News. This isn't the first time that thousands of students in Waterloo have been suspended over their vaccination. According to CBC News, over 4,000 elementary students in the region were also facing suspension because of immunization records back in March 2017. A recent measles outbreak in BC has been a health scare for many Canadians and prompted more people to get vaccinated.
UK - Gluten-free breads are packed with a cocktail of additives and chemicals - including some used in the make-up and oil drilling industry, food campaigners claim. As more people turn to gluten-free loaves in a bid to tackle gut disorders, consumers are being warned that up to 27 different products can be used to make them. The findings are revealed in new Channel 5 documentary, Secrets of Your Supermarket Food, due to be screened this week.
INDIA - War has erupted in Asia. India is the second largest country in the world by population, and Pakistan is the fifth largest, and they both possess large nuclear arsenals. If this conflict continues to escalate, things could get really, really bad very quickly. On Wednesday, military aircraft were shot down by both sides, there was shelling across the border by both armies, and in recent hours videos have been posted of Pakistani tanks and Indian tanks both heading to the border. Once one army crosses the “Line of Control”, it is going to be very difficult to get the two sides to sit down at the negotiating table.
INDIA - As the conflict is spiralling between India and Pakistan, which country has a bigger army? The airstrikes between the neighbours mark the first armed conflict since a war in 1971 - and are a sign of troubling times, given both countries are armed with nuclear weapons which usually serve as a deterrent for violence. Pakistan has a total of 935,800 personnel combined in its army, navy, air force and paramilitary. But the Indian army is much bigger, as it has 5.1 million personnel.
EUROPE - In a working paper published last month, Professor Gerhard Hanappi argued that since the 2008 financial crash, the global economy has moved away from “integrated” capitalism into a “disintegrating” shift marked by the same sorts of trends which preceded previous world wars.
