USA - A US cement maker will pay $42,500 to a Seventh-day Adventist worker whom it fired for declining to work on the Sabbath, the US government said. Greenville Ready Mixed Concrete, a company based in North Carolina, agreed to compensate truck driver Michael Cole and to take steps to prevent future religious discrimination with its settlement in a lawsuit filed by the government’s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. “We are pleased with this settlement,” said Lynette A Barnes, regional attorney for the agency's Charlotte District Office. “No one should ever be forced to choose between his religion and his job.”

COLUMBIA - A powerful earthquake measuring 5.9 magnitude has struck northwest Colombia, the US Geological Survey reports. The epicenter of the quake was located some 129 km (about 66 miles) north northwest of the country’s second largest city, Medellin, at a depth of 72 km (45 miles). There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. Colombia is located in a subduction zone, meaning earthquakes occur inland, where large masses of land are interacting between each other.

IRAN - Iran threatened to shoot down two US Navy surveillance aircraft flying close to Iranian territory in the Persian Gulf over the weekend, the latest in a series of recent provocations between Iran and the US military in the region, three US defense officials with knowledge of the incident told Fox News. On September 10, a Navy P-8 Poseidon with a crew of nine and an EP-3 Eries with a crew of roughly 24, were flying a reconnaissance mission 13 miles off the coast of Iran, through the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman, according to officials who call the boundary Iran’s “black line.” Iran’s territorial waters — like all nations — extend 12 miles into the sea, according to international maritime law. At some point during the flight, the Iranian military warned the two aircraft to change course or risk getting shot down. The US military planes ignored the warning and continued flying in international airspace, although close to Iranian territory, the officials told Fox.
AUSTRIA - Muslims want to eradicate Christianity and conquer Europe - the Catholic cardinal tipped to be the next Pope has incredibly claimed. Austrian Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn gave the unexpected warning on Sunday during a special celebration for the Church festival "Holy Name of Mary". According to the Archdiocese of Vienna, the Cardinal said: "Will there be an Islamic conquest of Europe? Many Muslims want that and say: Europe is at its end."

Today we hear things about Jews and the Jewish people that we thought belonged to the pages of history. … Anti-Semitism is returning to everyday life without shame.” Danon also said that social media presents a “new kind of threat” in that anti-Semitism goes global very quickly.
