Obama Signs ‘Monsanto Protection Act’

USA - United States President Barack Obama has signed a bill into law that was written in part by the very billion-dollar corporation that will benefit directly from the legislation. On Tuesday, President Obama inked his name to HR 933, a continuing resolution spending bill approved in Congress days earlier. Buried 78 pages within the bill exists a provision that grossly protects biotech corporations such as the Missouri-based Monsanto Company from litigation.

US election: The Disunited States of America - whoever wins

USA - Somehow we ended up with two presidential candidates uniquely unpopular in American polling history. So many people have said to me on my travels around this great continent, how was it out of a population of 320 million we ended up with such an appalling choice?

Everybody Is Telling Me That Trump Is Going To Win...

USA - I hope that I am wrong. On Tuesday night we will find out who our next president will be, and I have a very ominous feeling about what is going to happen. But all around me there are people telling me that Trump is going to win. They tell me to disregard the polls because they cannot be trusted, and that very well may be true. They tell me that new voters and independent voters will overwhelmingly vote for Trump, and they tell me that it is obvious that Trump has more enthusiasm for his campaign because of the size of his rallies.

I Just Lost All Faith In Our Deeply Corrupt Legal System

USA - The FBI just gave Hillary Clinton the biggest gift in the history of presidential politics. Two days before the election the FBI has announced that they are ending their investigation into Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified information. After reviewing the emails that were found on electronic devices owned by Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner, FBI Director James Comey sent a letter to Congress telling them that “we have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in July with respect to Secretary Clinton.”

Oklahoma: Quake shakes key US oil hub

USA - A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck some 2km west of the town of Cushing, Oklahoma, causing serious structural damage to downtown area and power outages. The town is a major hub in US oil supply with its 13 pipelines pumping millions of barrels a day. The quake struck at a depth of just 5km, US Geological Survey reported, revising the magnitude from 5.3 to 5.0. Despite being a moderate tremor on the Richter scale, the shallow quake resulted in several buildings partly collapsing, also causing a power outage. With a population of under 8,000, Cushing is home to a large oil storage, which, according to AP, is touted as “the world’s largest.” The town has been branded the “Pipeline Crossroads of the World.”

FBI director: No charges after new review of Hillary Clinton emails

USA - FBI Director James Comey has told Congress that a new investigation by his agency of Hillary Clinton's private email server has not unearthed any information that would warrant any charges being brought against the Democratic candidate. Saying that his team "has been working around the clock," studying emails on a laptop belonging to the husband of an aide of Hillary Clinton's, Comey claimed the review of the additional material "from a device obtained in connection with an unrelated criminal investigation" did not change the investigators' previous conclusion regarding Clinton's email practices. Trump’s campaign manager Kellyanne Conway pointed out that despite the clearance given by the FBI to Clinton, the agency has not changed its previous conclusions. “This means she still was reckless and careless, still lied about classified info,” she tweeted.

Forget the Cost to the Candidates. This Campaign’s Cost America More.

USA - The world, too, is waiting anxiously for this election to be over: In India, right-wing Hindus pray at their temple for Donald J Trump to defeat Islamic extremism. In Saudi Arabia, a crown prince waits who engaged in a Twitter war with Mr Trump. In Mexico, economists predict that the peso will plummet if Mr Trump wins. In Japan, a generation that has taken United States military protection for granted, worries that it might no longer be able to do so.

Researchers claim that humans have souls which can live on after death

UK - Scientists have claimed that death may not be as final as we once feared – and that humans have souls that can leave the body after their hosts kick the bucket. It may sound like a supernatural myth, but the idea that human consciousness lives on after death has been put forward by a number of well-respected scientists.

Sentinel satellites reveal east–west shift in Italian quake

ITALY - New information on the effects of the 30 October earthquake that struck central Italy continues to emerge as scientists analyse radar scans from satellites. Using radar imagery from the Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellites, Italian experts have identified significant east–west displacements of the ground in the area struck by the earthquake. An eastwards shift of about 40 cm was mapped in the vicinity of Montegallo, while a westwards shift of about 30 cm is centred in the area of Norcia. Vertical displacement is also evident, with the ground sinking 60 cm around Castelluccio but rising by about 12 cm around Norcia. The team of scientists from the Institute for Electromagnetic Sensing of the Environment of the National Research Council and the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology combined radar scans taken before and after the event to map centimetre-scale changes.

California secession group to hold meet-up at State Capitol

USA - An organization hoping to facilitate the secession of California from the Union is holding a meet and greet on the Capitol steps in Sacramento next Wednesday, November 9, 2016, or, the day after the presidential election. The Yes California Independence Campaign, which is based in San Diego, is aiming to qualify a citizen's initiative in 2018 to get a referendum for secession on the ballot in 2019. They'll be in Sacramento to garner support for their initiative. "In our view," a statement on its website reads, "the United States of America represents so many things that conflict with Californian values, and our continued statehood means California will continue subsidizing the other states to our own detriment, and to the detriment of our children."

The Rise And Rise of Fake News

UK - The deliberate making up of news stories to fool or entertain is nothing new. But the arrival of social media has meant real and fictional stories are now presented in such a similar way that it can sometimes be difficult to tell the two apart. While the internet has enabled the sharing of knowledge in ways that previous generations could only have dreamed of, it has also provided ample proof of Winston Churchill's line that "A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on".

Listen to Me, You who know righteousness, You people in whose heart is My Law: …I have put My words in your mouth, I have covered you with the shadow of My hand, That I may plant the heavens, Lay the foundations of the earth, and say to Zion, “you are My people” (Isaiah 51:7,16)
