Research in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in 2017 found that a quarter of children and 40 per cent of adults were using these sweeteners. Since then, their use has become even more widespread — partly due to the introduction of the sugar tax in 2018, which meant manufacturers had to pay more tax if their goods contained 8g (or more) of added sugar per 100ml. In fact, according to a recent survey 3.5 million people now use sweeteners at least twice a day.

You can see why. The idea of having a sweet hit without worrying about your health or waistline is appealing. But is it that simple? For far from saving our waistlines, research suggests that sweeteners may, in some cases, expand them. That might sound counterintuitive — but research on fruit flies and mice (admittedly not humans — we're trickier to study) has found that consuming sweeteners increases appetite.

For one such study, published in the journal Cell in 2016, researchers gave fruit flies the no-calorie sweetener sucralose for three days. Surprisingly, this encouraged the flies to eat more food and calories. When they stopped the sucralose, their consumption fell. Meanwhile, recent research suggests certain sweeteners can alter the make-up of our microbiome — the microbes that live in our gut and underpin so much of our health.

SVB's failure was swiftly followed by the demise of another US lender, Signature Bank. According to reports, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), a US financial regulator, sought bids for First Republic by the end of last week and has been assessing them over the weekend.

Investment banking giant JP Morgan Chase is believed to be one of the banks invited to bid for First Republic, according to news agency Reuters. Bank of America is also understood to have been approached.

Concerns about the global banking industry gathered pace last month as problems at Silicon Valley Bank emerged. Central banks around the world have been sharply raising interest rates over the past year to dampen the rate of price rises, otherwise known as inflation. It has hurt the values of the large portfolios of bonds bought by banks when rates were lower, raising concerns that other firms faced similar situations.

At the same time in Europe, Swiss banking giant Credit Suisse - which had been engulfed in its own problems for a number of years - said it would have to borrow $54 billion from the country's central bank to shore up its finances. Credit Suisse has since been rescued by long-time rival UBS.

The raid of Bain and Company offices in Shanghai came weeks after officers detained five staff members from the Beijing offices of American corporate due diligence firm Mintz Group. The company said in a statement made to Reuters that authorities shuttered operations for the business in China, additionally clarifying that the five detailed employees were all Chinese nationals. “Mintz Group has not received any official legal notice regarding a case against the company and has requested that the authorities release its employees,” the company added.

The raids also occur as tensions between the United States and China heighten over several recent espionage efforts from the rising communist power, including a spy balloon that traversed the continental United States and reports of social media platform TikTok collecting data on American citizens. Other technology firms based in China have provoked concerns among lawmakers and prompted the Biden administration to increase trade restrictions.

It comes after Dr Jaymz Sideras, the leader of religious group Revive Boston, warned: 'While they think they are coming to ambush Boston, little do they know that God has planned to ambush them.' His organization is hosting a counter-event at the Revere Hotel Boston Common, less than a mile from the Satanist convention at the Boston Marriott Copley Place.

A troubling appearance from white nationalist group The Patriot Front also joined the protestors outside the conference. 'We've had threats', one Satanist attendee told Freedom News. 'There are protestors, quite a few of them are outside. We have no problem with them protesting, that's their right to do.'

If you are not familiar with neonicotinoids, this is how they are defined by Texas A&M… Neonicotinoids are a new class of insecticides chemically related to nicotine. The name literally means “new nicotine-like insecticides”. Like nicotine, the neonicotinoids act on certain kinds of receptors in the nerve synapse. They are much more toxic to invertebrates, like insects, than they are to mammals, birds and other higher organisms. One thing that has made neonicotinoid insecticides popular in pest control is their water solubility, which allows them to be applied to soil and be taken up by plants.

Today, many seeds that our farmers use actually come pre-coated with neonicotinoids. Our crops are literally pre-poisoned before they even sprout. After seeing the impact that neonicotinoids had on the environment, Europe banned them. But they are still legal here in the United States even though they have been blamed for killing bees on an absolutely massive scale…

Many of us warned the Fed that it would be mind-numbingly stupid to push interest rates much higher just as we were entering a major economic downturn, but of course the Fed didn’t want to listen. We were told that they are the “experts” and that they knew precisely what they were doing. And now a nightmare scenario is playing out right in front of our eyes.

Companies announced nearly 90,000 layoffs in March, a sharp step up from the previous month and a giant acceleration from a year ago, outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas reported Thursday. The damage was especially bad in tech, which has announced 102,391 cuts so far in 2023. That’s a staggering increase of 38,487% from a year ago and good for 38% of all staff reductions. Tech already has cut 5% more than for all of 2022, according to the report, and is on pace to eclipse 2001, the worst year ever amid the dot-com bust.

Please take a moment to digest those numbers, because they are absolutely staggering. This isn’t just some sort of a minor shift in the employment market. This is a collapse.

For example, Best Buy has been hanging by a thread over the past few years and quietly closing more stores each year. Since 2019, over 80 Best Buy locations have disappeared from sight. And earlier this year, the chain announced plans “to close a higher number of stores.” The company did not reveal the total number of closings. Media reports suggest that at least 600 locations are in financial distress. That is over half of the retailer’s footprint in the US.

The stakes are incredibly high, and no one knows what may happen next in the industry, so take the opportunity to go to your favorite store before a black swan event occurs, drastically changing the scenario from bad to completely disastrous.

We also witnessed the Government's promotion of social disapproval and guilt messaging. These techniques were embedded into a multi-channel, co-ordinated public health campaign designed to change the public's behaviour without their knowledge. Moreover, in tandem with the mainstream media, the Government also proactively suppressed, censored, and ostracised any healthcare professional or scientist who suggested alternative responses to Covid19, or who simply questioned the messaging and measures being implemented by the Government.

Evidence of the recommendation of using unethical psychological techniques to gain behavioural change:-

The Government document titled 'Options for increasing adherence to social distancing measures' (Gov.uk, 2020) was written for the Government by the Scientific Pandemic Insights Group on Behaviours (SPI-B) which is a subgroup of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE).

The premise of the document was to provide options for changing the behaviour of the UK public without their knowledge. A passage within this document states: "A substantial number of people still do not feel sufficiently personally threatened". It makes certain recommendations including: "The perceived level of personal threat needs to be increased among those who are complacent, using hard hitting emotional messaging". "Coercion", "Social disapproval" (Gov.uk, 2020).

The risk factors and ethics of using fear, shame, guilt, and coercion would almost certainly have been known to the members of SPI-B because several members were British Psychological Society (BPS) registered chartered psychologists. In an interview with one of the members of SPI-B, BPS registered educational psychologist Dr Gavin Morgan, he refers to the use of fear by his SPI-B colleagues and says:

'Clearly using fear as a means of control is not ethical. What you do as a psychologist is co-construction. Using fear smacks of totalitarianism. It's not an ethical stance for any modern government… Was it unethical to use fear, I asked? Well I didn't suggest we use fear' But your colleagues did. What do you think of that? He paused. 'Oh God'. 'Another reluctant pause. It's not ethical,' he said (Dodsworth, 2021, pp 262, 263).

Like Dr Morgan, any BPS registered psychologists within SPI-B would or should have recognised that recommending the Government uses fear as a means of controlling the public breached their professional code of ethics and conduct.

In scorching summer heat but relatively calm waters, the Malapascua and another Philippine coast guard vessel, the BRP Malabrigo, journeyed to the frontlines of the long-seething territorial conflicts. They cruised past a string of widely scattered Philippine-occupied and claimed islands, islets and reefs looking for signs of encroachment, illegal fishing and other threats.

“They didn’t want to sell,” she said. “I went to a lot of places and they were closing, they said, ‘I can’t sell to you’, ‘I can’t sell to you’ and the doors they did want to sell were of a really crappy material.”Her eventual purchase, at 31,900 Argentinian pesos, amounted to US$65 at black-market rates, US$144 at the official rate.

Massarelli’s struggle with the door reflected the uncertainty in Argentina as its currency has sharply depreciated over the past week in the informal market, raising fresh questions about the fragility of the Argentinian economy ahead of October presidential elections.

After reaching the agreement with various companies, Argentina will use the yuan for imports from China worth about US$1.04 billion from next month, accelerating trade with China as Beijing seeks to gain a further foothold in South America. In November last year Argentina expanded a currency swap with China by $5 billion in an effort to increase its yuan reserves.

That agreement allowed Argentina “to work on the possibility” of advancing the rate of imports with yuan-denominated import orders being authorised in 90 days rather than the standard 180 days. The decision comes as Argentina battles critical levels in its dollar reserves amid a sharp drop in agricultural exports caused by a historic drought, as well as political uncertainty ahead of elections this year.

It has also been working hard to build a relationship with Beijing after having officially joined China’s infrastructure-building Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) last year.
